Which Protek, if any? (New User)

    Hi

I'm a new user here, and I used to be a regular on another well known satellite forum until the Nagra change.

    My current set-up is 80cm motorised dish...and that's it!
Well, I've got a TM 1500 receiver but it's in the cupboard collecting dust now.

I'm a big football follower and last season I resorted to watching the games on the t'interweb.

This season (and beyond) I'd prefer to watch it through my TV and my dish.

I was doing research on the Spiderbox when this forum came up.
I had a quick read through some threads and I've seen a suggestion to get a Protek.

I've done a little research on it and looked at some prices on a well known auction website and it seems I'm looking at paying about ?260.

Is it really as simple as plug and play or would anything need doing when I get one delivered?

Does it really just auto-update with no subs to pay?

Which would be the best one to get?
I obviously don't want to get one that becomes obsolete in the first year, or where servers suddenly don't work (I understand it could happen at any time).
It will be mainly for the football season, but I can see myself and the family using it for much more if what I've read is true.

    Cheers guys & gals

hi and welcome to dk, you seem to have done youre research well and imho the protek boxs are the best "gift type" recievers available today... as for which one to choose well the 9700/9710 or the 9750/9760 models would be best for you as they are very easy to set up and auto-update when needed through your lan connection. there is a new protek mk-1 thats very new which is based on linux but will require more learning for around ?300. shop around for the best price and if you need any advice just ask, regards mdt

      Thanks for the reply.
I'm swinging towards the 9750 as it looks better.

The mk-1 is too expensive for me at the moment.
Infact, they are all too expensive at the moment, but it sort of saves money in the long run as long the servers don't suddenly go off.

      This is my main concern!

Forgot to add, I've noticed the Greek channels are off at the moment.
Do you know how long they have been off for and if/when they are likely to return?
