I'm on a spiderbox 7000HD and I get 63% Quality, The picture is still ace though, I only hit around 70's - 80's on all my satellites really, So if I am honest I don't think it matters too much as long as the pictures good and not going scrambley theres no need to worry what the number shows!

by trial and error,the dish elevation given for your lat is about 22.5 but this is only a starting point and you will have to max the signal by moving it up/down.you wont tell by looking at it.put your location lat on the motor and the same lat in your box these will not need moving again unless you are really into advanced fine tuning but for most of us it will not be neccessary(you will find that you will need to alter the lat setting in the box by very large amounts to make any impact)but unless you know exactly what your doing do not alter the latitude on the motor from your local lat. but you can fine tune the longitude by 0.2 degrees at a time E/W to get the best possible signal.Comment

thanks, i have no intention of adjusting any motor settings and to be honest i dont even want to move the dish, i just wanted to know the rough figure the elevation should be on the dish so i can check against the dish.
after talking to people on the forum, trawling the internet i am of the opinion that the dish should never have been put on a floor stand and should have been put on a t&k bracket on a 2m pole because where it is on the floor stand has a big tree in the line of sight for astra 28.2e. if it had gone on the side of the house 10m away from where it is now the clear line of sight does not have the tree in the way.
i am trying to get the guy who installed this to put it where i origonally wanted it but i went with his advise and now 28.2e is a good signal strength but poor quality strengthComment

yeah you get some quality variations on different transponders on all sats I find the BBC HD channels on 10.847V are lower than most but still give good results are there any particular channels you are haveing probs with.as long as the tree is roughly twice as far away as it is high it should not be a problem.
ps:just had a look at your pics and if the tree your worried about is the one you can just make out behind the washing line it looks too far away to be a problemLast edited by dick b; 17 August, 2011, 14:58.Comment

yes, the hd channels glitch a little and sky sports. also my signal for setanta 1 is poor.

im not at home at the minute but i know that sky news and bbc news (not HD)
are both coming in ar 65-68% quality and 99% signal
also when i get home i will check my signal and quality on thor 1w. if it is not good then i have your guide and the dish may need to be moved.

ok so when i got home i pointed the dish in usals to thor 1.0w and i get
signal 97%
quality 76%
i also have 22-23 degrees elevation on the dish.
i tried moving it up slightly and the signal weakens
i tried moving it down slightly and the signal weakens
my long longitude and latitude on dish finder is 51.63
and 0.01w
so i entered
0.1w
51.6n
on usuals
the elevation on the technomate 2600 drive is 40 and the latitude is 48
does this appear correct going on my info aboveComment

Your motor Lat should be set at 51.6 . Move the dish to thor at 0.8 , and then adjust left and right for best signal, and elevation for best signal. If the dish is off set it should be slightly back from upright. My 22.5 degrees offset dish for example measured at thor is 98.8 degrees measured on the LNBok so when i got home i pointed the dish in usals to thor 1.0w and i get
signal 97%
quality 76%

at the back of the dish. If you had a digital inclinometer put it on the LNB and take it away the reading from 90, the result add to 90 gives the angle of the dish. This is best done with a sat meter, but it is possible using the receiver readings. So to recap a offset at thor should be slightly back from upright. 6 degrees for example is one minute on a anologue watch.Comment

hi alec, i have taken some pics of the current settings on the motor, have a look.
so the dish elevation is correct at 22degress or there about but it looks like my settings on the motor are incorrect?
based on my latitude of 51.6n and longitude of 0.1w
