How important in an internet connection to Spiderbox's?

What does the spiderbox use the connection for, i have a terrible connection and if its downloading data all the time it just won't be practical for me.

    Cheers

very important as 90% of channels that clear use the lan to recieve cw,s ect. you dont need a high speed/bandwidth connection just a reliable one. regards mdt

My connection isn't completely useless but it does go off from time to time for an hour or so... now does it get updates a few times a day or is it updating or what ever it does every 10 seconds.

My picture on my spiderbox would scramble quite quickly if I were to lose internet connection.
But its still the best box I have ever bought.
My free gift subscription has expired but I still get plenty of channels clearing.

New CW's needed for most encrypted channels every 8-10 seconds.

So it needs an internet connection but doesn't use as much bandwidth as say watching a internet stream?

No it doesn't, But your internet needs to stay on, within 5 seconds of your internet going off, The spiderbox would stop showing the channel, That is if the channel was encrypted!

CW's are the things that encryption systems deperately try to hide usually, as mentioned above, within entitlement control messages (ecm's)

All DVB based systems that are encrypted use the same base scrambling system called dvb-csa (common scrambling algorithm). It doesn't matter whether its Nagra, Seca, Conax, ViaAccess, NDS etc - they must all use this same common algorithm for the actual scrambling of data.

The success of csa is dependant on a rapidly changing set of scrambling keys. These keys are the codewords (CW's) and its these changing cw's that the overlying encryption system (Nagra etc) strive to deliver in a secure way.

As a point of interest both N1 & N3 use the very same underlying csa system. The actual streamdata is scrambled in precisely the same way now as it was under N1 - only the delivery of the codewords is different between the two systems.
