installing motorised dish. cant f-ing drill into red exterior brick wall

Hi, im having trouble drilling into a brick wall. i bought a masonry 10mm drill bit, set the wired bosh drill onto hammer setting and no luck at all. 2/3 min drilling and just went in 5mm.

i used the same drill and bit to install my tv bracket into a plaster>brick wall without a problem.

    any help would be appreciated.

when you installed your tv bracket, you werent going into brick, more than likely, you were going into concrete/breeze blocks, what wattage is yer drill?
    Fave replies from various threads

get your self an sds drill and 10mil sds bit..ps best to drill a pilot hole first with a 6mil bit less chance of shattering the brick also keeps your holes more in line

You def drilling into brick and not a lintel?
Try a smaller drill bit first and make sure they not from Wilkos

It could be your drilling into engineering brick. That is a right ~~~~er to drill into. As Maca said your best using an SDS drill.

          THE TRUTH
          The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

I almost killed myself once trying to drill into brick with the bit spinning anti-clockwise. It heated up to something approaching the surface of the sun, snapped and flew past my left eye like a bullet. Doh!!

Was going to suggest it might be on reverse.

Maybe the bit is just knackerd mate.

defo sounds like engineering bricks and you need a good drill to get through them.
a diy home drill is no good you will need a pro drill
i use a bosch 24v sds cordless hammer drill and it is still an effort if the drill bit is well used

do as deviousG says and keep our local hss hire controllers in business. Drill is everything and there's a complete different animal to normal domestic ones. Heres you can get one of these are reasonable money.

                      Code:
                      http://www.hss.com/index.php?g=2311#SpecificationTitle
I'm sure if you talk nice and sweet to a hc they will give you a nice big discount. There really nice chaps you know.

Cheaper to buy cheap sds than hire one.
