Installed a satellite myself, easy, you can do it too

hi all, this thread is for anyone coming over from the cable to sat side. i know there are lots of experienced guys on here who could do this blind folded but this info is aimed and new users and i am sharing my experience for others.

i decided to have a go at installing a fixed dish myself so i bought one from amazon for ?20 delivered with hd ready lnb.

when it arrived i assembled the dish and clamped it onto my fence in the garden making sure it was straight.

look at the dishes in your area and just put your dish pointing in the same direction.

i also purchased a koing sat meter for a ?5 to help me get the satellite aligned.

it is really easy to use. i just ran a cable from the lnb to the meter and one from the meter to my satellite box to power the meter and asjusted the dish until i heared a high pitch noise.

then bingo i had the signal at 90%

i tightened up all the bolts on the dish and neatly ran the cable and job done.

one perfectly aligned sat dish pointing at astra 28.2e.

i am a complete newbie to sat side and put it off for ages but i am so glad i done this as its much better and stable.

if i can do this then you can too.

Make sure that the fence cant move or you could lose your signal.
Well done anyway, 28.2e is very easy to set up but people are worried first time off.
Setting up a motorised system is also easy but members are wary of this as well.

its a concrete post on the fence. i actually paid someone ?120 to install my motor set up last month and it was a crap job i had to fix it all up with the help of users on this forum. he never even had my latitude correct on the motor.

i gained loads of knowledge on motorised dishes through this forum and done it but i lost out financially. the only thing he done right was get the stand plumb.

is should have told him not to bother when he arrived on a horse wearing a cowboy hat!!

well you should not have paid him if he done a poor job, im having my 1m motorised dish fitted up tomorrow for my protek 9750 hd and trust that the installer will do a good job for his 130 quid .. he has allready fitted me a new aerial for my freeview to 4 rooms and has done a realy tidy job....i dont mind paying aslong as the job is done right.

It could have been worst, he could arrived with pirate clothes, flying the jolly roger, and want your wallet.

if it was not for forums like this one and the effort users take on the forum to help people out i would not have been able to do this.

                            Newbie thanks

                            Dear pulsaruk,

Thank you...I too am comtemplating moving from Cable (Virgin+) to fressat. Can you advise what boc you got.

I am a complete newbie, and can't find an idiots guide to point me in the right direction. My kids are still smarting at the potential of losing Sky1 (shame), but I'm trying to save some ?50 a month for TV.
