Need help and advice regarding Motorised dish set-up!!!

Myself and a colleague are interested in buying a motorised dish set-up, as we have been told you are able to get all broadcasted football matches and much more for your money!

We know absolutely nothing about this subject and therefore would like to ask for your help and advice on the matter.

Rather than write a massive post, I thought if I write down the questions we have, then if you can offer any help just reply to a specific question if you want. Hope that?s o.k?

(I know some questions may seem stupid, but please bear in mind we know nothing about this)

    1. What equipment do we need to purchase? (i.e. Dish, receiver, decoder, cards ect)

    2. Where is the best/ trusted place to buy?

    3. What kind of costs are we looking at for full set-up and installation?

    4. Does dish size matter or affect what you can get?

    5. Does where you are in the U.K matter? (We are in the North-West, Merseyside).

    6. Other than the football, what other channels can you get? Can you get Sky Channels? (i.e. Discovery channels, Film channels, Nat Geo and the likes)

    7. Is the whole set up easy to install or is it better to get a pro to do it? (What would paying for installation cost)

    8. Does all this require planning permission?

    9. Can you record programs (i.e. Sky+ style)?

    10. Is there anything else you think we might need to know or consider?

Thank you for any and all help and advice, it is very much appreciated!

1: motor, tm2300 is good, dish, anywhere from 80cm to 1.1m depending on where you live. receiver, good start is dreambox 500s.
2: ebays good, feedback points are there for a reason, i got my dreambox from satandcable, others got from china, ukdreamshop etc..
2: full cost of equipment, your looking about ?150, this includes dish, motor, receiver, cables, f connectors, null modem cable, satfinder.
3: if u install your self with the guides on here thats obv free, look around ?170 for someone to do it for you
4: general consensus is further north, the bigger dish,
5: yes see above, mersey side, should be ok with 80, maybe 90cm
6: sly channels with a cardshare.. we cant talk about that on here, LOTS of pron.. LOTS!!
7: if you can use a spirit level to get mount straight, everything else is perfectly do-able with the help on here
    8: no
9: depends on receiver. the one i mentioned is bottom end so no. if you want sky+ type box, then you will be looking at around ?230 upwards for box alone
10: read the guides on here, especially this one http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...1/#post1232964

Thank you for any and all help and advice, it is very much appreciated!
      1. You need a dish, receiver, LNB, a motor, some ct100 cable, some f plugs and a sat beeper to make things a little easier.

      2. Most reputable traders sell on eBay. You can find full motorised packages there for reasonable prices.

      3. For a 1.1m motorised setup including installation and equipment, you're looking at around ?300-?350 (minus receiver). If you install it yourself, expect to pay around ?150 for equipment. Receivers are around ?50 for SD and ?130 for HD.

      4. Yes. An 80cm dish will receive the big sats like hot bird, astra without any problems. For sats with weaker footprints, you'll need a bigger dish. 1.1m is a good size.

      5. Yes, but only for fringe satellites. For what your after, it won't matter much.

      6. Yes, you'll get all channels on pretty much all European satellite packages. Check kingofsat.net for channel listing. You'll get sport, movies, kids, documentaries, and ~~~~.

      7. If you have no experience setting up dishes, it might be better to employ a pro to set it up. Getting everything straight and tracking the arc is the hardest part, as there is only a slight margin for error. Check satpointer.com to get an idea of where you can install your dish. A south facing wall is best, but if you have obstacles or you can install on that wall, you may need to install the dish above the eaves. If you find a nice install location, that's not too high, it might be worth trying it yourself.

      8. I believe in England, planning permission is required for a dish above 1 metre. I wouldn't worry about it though, unless you're in a posh suburb where neighbours might take exception to a large dish. If it's installed out the back, i really wouldnt worry about planning permission. Few people ever apply.

      9. If you have a PVR receiver, yes. With a single lnb though, you would need to watch the program you're recording. If you want watch a different channel (on the same satellite) while recording, you'll need a receiver with dual tuners, such as the VU+ duo, and a twin LNB (two cables from the lnb to the receiver). The EPG functions of linux receivers are nowhere near as user friendly as Sky+ though.

      10. Google cardsharing. Buying subscription cards to all European packages just isn't a feasible option.

I am assuming this is a taboo subject and not to be discussed openly on the forum. Is PM'ing info possible just to explain better. Only due to not knowing a thing about any of this subject, some of the terminology can and is making a lot of stuff difficult to understand.

        Cheers again for the help

Ref to cardsharing, yes it is a taboo subject on many boards because its a illegal.

Please tell me that you are doing this for personal use and not because you own a pub/club.

I started out with a free 80cm dish that was given to me a scaffold pole and an humax receiver. I had the dish bolted to the pole and hammered into the ground pointed at 42.0e for the footy, it was FTA then.

If cost is a issue because it can become expensive before you know it you have spent over ?500 then start out with a db500 and a fixed dish at maybe hotbird or Eurobird 16.

One way or other the days of "free" tv are gone and most people do c/s to get what they need.
Saying that at the moment they is a few channels open on 39.0e with keys but that will go soon too.
So you will need to purchase a card, the better offical card you have the more likely you are get soemthing good back.

I reckon you and your mate get yourself setup with your dishes etc then maybe look at splitting the cost for a Tring + card.

              Thanks again for the reply.
I can assure you i don't own a pub/club or any other type of business. This purely a personal interest for home use. I am also not expecting free channels that one would normally pay, but rather just getting more value for my money. I'm not sure if this type of venture is good value for money, but given the costs of the likes of SKY tv in the U.K i don't feel they do offer value for money.

With regards to budget, i can't speak for my mate, but i have a budget of around ?500 to ?600. To be honest i thought that was the cost of the whole set up anyway. So thats what i budgeted for.

I just don't know anything about the subject, the equipment needed, terminology or anything else. I'm basically entering this blind, hence why i thought to ask around and speak to more knowledgeable and experienced people like yourselves couldn't do me any harm at least.

As much as i am really appreciating the responses and advice, i am still a fair bit confused. I'm not sure where to even start with regards where to buy the items needed. My biggest worry is being ripped off.

I have looked at local businesses who deal with this sort of thing, but i wouldn't know if they were selling me stuff i wouldn't really need.

All i am looking for is decent set-up for my money and for it to cater for my interests with regards to viewing. Which basically are the football, films, documentaries, stuff for the kids and most of the channels that can be viewed on SKY. I know the advice maybe to just stick with SKY possibly, but the reason i say i am interested in the SKY channels is because they are the only channels i know of. I just figured with this method i may get more channels for my money.

Hope that explains my position a little better and once again thank you for all the responses so far and future ones.

If your gonna have a go at fitting yourself Ebay is good enough.
Regarding buying a Dreambox either Ukdreamshop for a good UK supplier or Tony or Tina at Yaoxin China,or Dhgate. Not seen many on there recently think they renaming receivers to something else for legal reasons. All of these are clones.
As for recording you can put in a sata drive to record on,

                    DM800HD (PRO) SAT RECEIVER (M) BSBE2-801A WITH SSL82 BOOTLOADER - ukdreamshop

                    Andy.

I wish i saw this board before i went and paid out.

But i think what i have so far is good - for the price i paid.
80cm Dish , Dual LNB , Motor (not in use yet) , Tripod & dual cheap cable. That lot cost me just over ?100 inc delivery.

I live in leicestershire & allready have a sky dish up. Oh yes the pain in the ass part - i live in a bungalow so the council wont give us permission to fit a dish + motor.

Whic is why im going to buy a scaffolding pole & dump it in the far end of my garden.

Now other equpment i have a 5402HD - wish i saved up a little more to get a better one. And also a TBS5922 USB - For my media PC next to the computer.

I think so far i have done well - could have done better. Im going to get better quality cable as soon as i have my scaffolding pole up & ready.

The only thing i have not got yet is a CAM & quite honestly dont know which to buy - i only want to shell out the once & not buy all the different types.

Any advice there would be helpfull. Although i have a good laugh when watching who want to be a millionare in russian or arabic - i cant belive some of the rubbish broadcasted for the sake of it.

@ TK Trooper how you getting on ?

@ CasioJones My understanding is you are allowed two dishes on your property, one at no more than 60cm and the other no more than 100cm.
Unless you live in a listed building.

                              Are you the freeholder ?
