    Ethernet cable protek 9710

    Hello everyone this may sound a little stupid do i need a router to connect box to modem or can i just connect a lead from computer to pc as my box is only 10 foot away from my computer.

    I"m not that well up on computing but I use cat5 cable between my spiderbox and broadband router and have no problems.

      If you have two network card in your pc you can set one up to share the internet and plug a cross-over cable from box to that card.

      Router or hub would be easier

        So i would nees a router and a lead going from modem to router and a lead going router to box. I am stuck already and i have only just opened the box so much for plug and play . thanks.

          EATHERNET from router is best or you can buy homeplugs to transmit wireless, you can most prob buy homeplugs from the place you purchased your protek...BJ1

              yes m8 sorry did not read the post properly as he only has virgin media modem but i assume he just needs to connect a router to his modem then to his stb via eathernet or home plugs if stb to far away from router...BJ1

                a router with x amount of ports is handy as you can add as many units of lan cables as it takes or add a home plug to go through the wiring of house and hopefully as i said every thing is on same circuit,places get wired up differently and that is why i wanted to add the extra info.
