Does everyone with satellite get reception problems with rain or wind ?

i live in Glasgow scotland and it pisses down with rain and is windy a lot, i have a 88 inch motorised triax with dreambox.

since i got my satellite installed there seems to be a lot of glitching in the picture and sound, now it's not a line problem or anything like that, because i have double tripple checked it, the signal goes mental on the box and sometimes dissapears altogether, even on free channels

there's problems if there is heavy dark clouds and a bit of rain or when it rains heavier and also problems if its windy

i just wonder if its always been this bad how the heck has rupert murdoch made such a succesfull business out of it ?

my mum gets problems with her little sky mesh dish with freesat aswell.

she's freaking out about it as the weather up here is 99% rain

anything that can be done or is it just something you have to live with if your fond of satellite television ?

You do to an extent but on a 88cm unless its the worst of the worst then it should be fine.

What tuner do you have on your 800?

The past few weeks I have had the odd outage on the sky dish, but my 80 motor dish was fine.

What kind of snr are you getting on a clear day then see what you get on a heavy cloudy day.

its a alps m tuner i heard they were the best

and the signal on a normal day is 98-100%

even on a bad day like today the signal still shows something like 93-97% but in time with the glitching the signal drops 20,30,50% and also dissapears completely

I have around 2 to 3 times a year, when it the rain is so bad I can't receive a decent picture, for about a hour. If you are getting too often then check your mounting pole is solid, and install a bigger mesh dish.

By anychance are you pointing at 26 east when this happens. i live in northern ireland and have a 1m dish and the weather has to be good to pick up 26 east any cloud or rain and the picture drops away off. recommended dish size in the south is 1m and 1.2m in the north ie scotland. hope this help mate.

I have a triax88 with an Openbox S9 in Hamilton with no problems. We also get lots of wind here in Lanarkshire but my dish needs about 3 inches of snow before I lose a signal on any of 16 satellites. Check your dish bracketry, mounting pole, the coax cable & fconns for water entry, and if you are using a diseqc motor, check it for backlash in the gearing.

yeah im sure theres something up with it

thing is i got it installed on the roof of a tenement (so i can't get to it), because i wanted the best coverage (i have a large tree next to me facing south) having the dish on the roof meant tree wasn't in the way

thing is i only ever use 28,19,16,13,08 but i didn't know that previous to getting it installed

if your dish is correctly aligned you shouldnt lose signal except in the heaviest of rain/storm.even your mums dish should cope if its a 60cm zone 2 one.

Since ive gone motorised even in the strongest winds and wettest weather ive had no picture break up.
The only time i would get that was when i was with Sky so thats says alot about Sky for you.

                      Andy.

sounds like your dish is slightly out,i live in a block of flats in manchester and the wind is bad up here 12th floor but still get a v-good recieption even 26 east is good.

I am not under the impression that rain should be such a problem any more (maybe 10 years ago when lnb's were 0.8db). Sounds more likely that either your dish isnt mounted securely, is slightly out of allignment, or you have a tree or something in the near distance of your building getting in the way. Last winter my 80cm (4 lnb array) got 6" of snow on it, but I got no issues with any satellites it looks at. You need to establish whether the wind or the rain is the actual problem. I would be VERY supprised if rain is the issue, unless its water getting into your cables. Consider that you are still within the footprint of the eurobird (28.2) satellite, and that people in norway and sweden can still get the signal using 80cm to 1m dishes, that its unlikely a "Scotland" issue.
