    Diagnosing an LNB..

    Any way of doing this?

Motor has been running fine till last night, lost all signal, tried 2 different boxs, same result.

Motor is still moving to the positions and ive checked the connectors and they seem ok.

Only thing i can think is gubbed is the lnb.

Your dish might of moved a little out of the arch taking in mind that we have had slight gusty gale's around the country, i would of thought you would at least pick up one or two station even if the LNB has gone, as it is rare that both vertical or horizontal polarisation would go at the same time ?

So from experience i would check my dish first before forking out on an lnb.

ITgate TGM220 (swapable tuner), Dreambox 800 pro, Dreambox 500c x 2, DBox, Popbox media player.

I had kinda discounted that as the past few nights the weather has been fine, was brutal last week and it survived, still coulda slipped I suppose.

          Bump.

New lnb, changed cabling and connectors and moved the dish around, still no signal.

          Different boxes same problem.

It possible the motor could be causing this?

Can you connect direct to the box with out the use of the motor, and try and search for a satellite that way just to elimainate the motor ? then reconnect the motor once you have found a station on 1 west or 28.2 ?

It's always best to have a monitor that you can see when you are doing this like a little portable tv ? and once you have found a station wire back up to the motor and hope that it is not the motor that was causing the issue.....................

PS- When the motor is moving through the satellites do your signal level's go up and down when trying to lock onto a sat ? if yes then your dish needs to be set up / realigned.

Point the dish to a known Satellite position. Remove connecters from motor and connect them together with a F-Plug to F Plug Coupler. If you had a cheap Satellite meter you can see if you are receiving power from the receiver plus a signal at source. Which would have save a lot of messing about.

Right, moved the dish to my 28.2e position, meter squeeled like a pig when i connect the motor and lnb.

rigged it all back up and still no signal.

Should connecting direct to the lnb work, cos ive tried that and still the same, this is really doing my nut in.

Power is deffo gettin to the motor from the box.

If the dish has moved out of postion, you will ge a signal on the meter, but the sat box will be tuned to another sat. If I was you I would try and tune on Thor, and see where the motor is. the LNB should be just of true South. Also see if it is in line line with the motor on reset 0. Also I have had the motor move, but bad, or no signal, due to a bad connections. They should be checked with a Avo for low resistance.
