well, now im getting somewhere......finally.was so pi**ed off with it yesterday.changed the cable even aand nothing.so,lost my temper and jacked for the day.anyway, after probably 8 hrs in total,of pratting around trying to get the dish aligned, and finding thor then losing it etc i thawt theres gotta be something wrong !! went back inside and was just going to switch the receiver off(technomate tm500s).anybody who has one of these will probably know whats comin next.on the box is a built in sat meter which i was using.it has a drop down box for the sats ie thor, and also a dd box for............transponders.i just flikked through the transponders(theres prob 25 or so,h & v) and all of a sudden the signal shot up to 86 % and 80% for the quality.so basically it was on the wrong transponder ,which is why i couldnt get a signal !!! anyway iv tuned it in for thor channels and got quite a few but iv got to find, via the motor, the others, which im off to do in a mo.having said all this, the info provided by everyone was useful stuff, and i feel its been a learnin curve.no doubt, and watch this space,i shall be back tomorrow to tell you all that ive got the other sats,or,ive got probs again !!
      thanx

and what did you change it too?

what angle did you put your dish at mate?

On a offset dish it should on Thor, be angle slightly back from upright. My 22.5 offset is at 98.8 degrees, measured with an Inclinometer on the LNB arm at the back of the dish. When on THOR. This angle will be the greatest on true South, and decreases when the motor goes East and West.

thanx for the list dick.i did try the setup guide you sent but basically when i tried to open it it just said the file wasnt there ! anyway, had to replace the cable from the lnb to the motor(long story),so i swung it out of the way so i could reach it .i did mark the position beforehand though.changed the cable, swung it back exactly and lost the bloody sattelite again !!! by that time on sun night it was too dark etc to continue so im waiting for assistance to arrive so i can have another crack !! is there one particular transponder per sat ?? the tm seems to list loads and obviously when doin a scan it will scan for the strongest.but obviously the alignment has to be correct in the 1st plce doesnt it ??
              thanx

if you are using usals you only need an active TP on the 1st sat you set up on( there is no particular one its just that it must be active)then scan.once you have your 1st sat scanned in you can send it to the next sat you want and it will find it automatically.if you are not using usals but diseqc 1.2 you must have an active TP in in order to find it.So use usals.
here is a recap on what you must do,on your satfinder menu put THor 1W as the sat 11.682 H 28000 as the TP mounting pole 100% plumb(check all round with a spirit level).dish must be central on the motor spigot.correct long/lat entered in box.then whole assembly L/R and dish only up/down to tune in.lock up and check again
most sats will have a mix of active and not active TPs when you scan the box will check all the the TPs in its data base.you must be correctly aligned on your target (1st) sat before trying to find any others.there is nothing wrong with the attachments I sent I suspect your using Internet explorer as your browser which doesnt always work try firefox.

when aligning your dish on thor6 make sure you check some of the 10.7 to 12.75 transponders both h and v as these have varying strengths with a 5db swing in signal level(and thats before it starts p***ing down). the secret is be very pateint and maximize the signal on all recievable txp,s and if everything else is spot on your dish will trac the arc perfectly... of course the channels you will be able to recieve(encryption issues aside) will depend on your location, dish size,lnb/tuner and weather conditions. regards mdt

not gonna over butt in as youir getting good advice here, but i had a 1metre technomate dish, and it wern't till i put the bracket of dish on 30 degrees that i managed to get 1 west, after dishpointer told me 22.5 for my location...

also with dishpointer, zoom back and forth on the map, till you find a good landmark to aim at, if you're lucky one of the neighbours chimney pots might be in line with 1 west
                      1 metre dish,tm 5400ci super,tm 1500ci super,dreambox500s(currently a harsh learning curve)..

hi all, evern more news.went up yesterday afternooon and moved the dish again.got a perfect lock on thor, but as i went to to tighten the bolts the motor decided to turn itself to around 11 degrees east !!! tried a few times and the same result.why would that happen ?? it did,as i tried out of curiosity, pick a lot of cjhannels up but i suspect that it wasnt thor but a completely diffrent sat.ill try again in a bit wen i come off the comp.im working nites so yes i was very quiet last nite.but i do feel progress ,if only slight ,is being made.internet explorer ?? yes dick you are right.ill try again with firefox.re the motor moving on its own-- could this be something iv inputted into the box ?? i did put my long/latt settings into it.to start with.who said a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing eh ?? thanx again and more later, steve

hello again mate, all that file contains I"ve posted as a thumbnail in #24.dont know why the motor should have moved during setup unless you pressed the manual button by mistake.I"d start from scratch do a factory re-set and enter all your details again and just follow the instructions in my post #24

ps I"ve been retired so long I"d forgotten other people have to work(12 hr nights were a killer)
pps at your longitude of 1.8West the motor scale should read about 1East when moved to Thor at 1W.
