    Spider box are they watchable

Just a quick question about the spiderbox.
Are they watchable or do the gift channels freeze and jump about all the time.

        Thanks guys.
I'm set up with an openbox at the mo and i'm really pleased with it.Just seeing what else was out there, i think i will save my cash and get a dual tuner in a few months with a decent epg.

What you talking about? I can clarify some things regarding Spiderbox.
I have Spiderbox 9000HD since December 2009 and i am very happy with it. Gift channels are working since the day i plugged receiver. So nearly 2 years and still gift continuing plus i have 3 cccam lines working perfect in Spider plus PVR works fine.
You can have 7 day epg with latest firmwares.
Guys what else you need for a non-linux receiver?

the gift channels are not what they were and the spiderbox is known to suffer from c**cam problems and disconnection issues. OP if your after a closed box to run a line then a openbox s9/10 are good for the money although the channel editor/epg are poor or a dm800hd which is the best supported box on the net although as its linux it does require a great deal of reading/swearing LOL. if your after a box for the gift channels to just plug in and watch then have a look at the protek 97XX reciever,s although spiderboxs are still gvfm imo there stability/support problems have let them down. regards mdt

To be honest to many different receivers in market to choose. Some are close source and some open source.
I am looking to buy another receiver but i have no idea which one to go for.
I like linux receivers for support but i can't afford one because are very expensive. I don't like clones.
Spiderbox, Protek, Opticum and some other receivers are closed source receivers. For now these receivers are supporting cccam, newcamd etc but what is going to hapen after a couple of years. Will these receivers compete with new world satellite changes in future?

Thats exactly my problem i have an Openbox s10 now and it does what i want. But i was after another box for bedroom .I am tempted to get a linux box i'm not great with linux but i'm not a noob either. The only thing that puts me off is the price dont fancy the dreambox clone route.I am seriously thinking of getting a dvb-s card for a spare pc i have and making a media box.Can i use cccam and other software loaders on a Dvb card.I suppose thats for a different thread after ive tried reading up.
Again thanks for opinions everyone it all helps with the bigger picture.

My Spiderbox 9000 works fine, no problems at all. Quite a nice quality box and the remote controls the TV and box. ~Never used it for the gift channels but my Clines are Nlines work without any drop out.

The 7 day EPG isnt that great, better than what it was but still not great and dosent include all channels.

If you have internet at home then you can have more channels man just connect Spider to internet and read a bit.
