    Newbie - Sirus 4 (4.8e) / EPL Football

    Hi there,

I've only just started investigating the world of satellite TV at the weekend, there's so much to take in..

So, I've found a group of channels I'm interested in (the Nordic viasat sports ones) on Sirus4 (4.8e).

Just wondering what the steps are to start viewing the chans?
    1) Get at least an 80cm dish? (will my unused sky dish work?)
    2) Grab a HD decoder (dreambox)
    3) Subscribe to the swedish viasat service (if it's even possible as a UK resident?)

Doesn't take a genuis to read between the lines I'm interested in watching the 3pm English Premier League matches, If ViaSat isn't a service you can subscibe to, are there any other channels that do show the games?

I found the ADMC channels on Badr6, but seems as though you need at least a 3m dish to pick these up?

    Thanks, in anticipation

    Where abouts you live mate?

80-90cm dish should be fine to get viasat, look on kingofsat for transponder.

Dm800 should be fine for HD, plus it's a great box.

As for viasat sub, that's about 2k, try looking into cs viasat on google.

Could also get a protek box, get about 3, 3pm games a week. Google is your friend.

        Thanks for the prompt replies.

        I'm in Northants - Midlands.

        1. - Where can I find out about coverage?
I've seen some images on google about footprints of certain birds, but guess there's more of a technical site where you whack in your postcode and it'll tell you the signal strength? (guessing that's why people ask where I live?)

        2. - Look on kingofsat for Transponder?

Not too sure what this means. Is KOS the same as Lyngsat in that it tells you the channels on each bird?

        3. - Thanks for the tips CS/ViaSat!

        4. - TringSports / TV PL

These are both on the satellite 'Thor' ? is that the one at 0.8w? .. Will I be able to pick that up? I can't find tringsports

        5. - HD Input

OK, I have an unused sky dish on the outside of my house. I currently have Virgin, I'm thinking of keeping Virgin and just having my EPL sat as a seperate input.. Due to the positioning of my TV (smack bang on the chimney breast in middle of house) it'll be a pain to get a new sat cable from the outside of my house to my TV. I want to re-use my existing Sky Cable.

        a) Are cables universal - i know i'll need a new dish, can i just take the cable out my sky dish and put in a new one?

        b) HD input, there's only one single cable going from the sky sat to my TV does this mean I can't have HD without a second cable. If so - can you recommend any decent standard definition dreamboxes?

        6. Where can I get dishes from - do they come with LMB's or do I have to buy seperately?

        Many thanks in advance

hi mate tring sports is on 16e mate not 0.8w

1 - dont bother with that load a boquet into box and it will put all the channels in a logical list

2 - yes its similar to lyngsat

3- viasat hd cant be shared only standard def although the picture in sd is a million miles better than trings

          4 - answered above

5- get new cabling better safe than sorry

6 - sat shop.co.uk is very good or lincsat who comes on here or world of sat but google is ur friend, lnb and motors are seperate

OK, the more I read the more I understand..

Thanks for everyone's replies so far..

So (and please edit my post if I'm breaking the rules, not too sure what's allowed or not) I do the steps below:

            1) Get dish / lnb & point to 4.8e (will this do: Satellite Dish 95cm + Wall Mount + 0.1dB LNB + Fittings | eBay ??)

            2) Get a DM500

            3) Load the DM500 with another image (which is best: Gemini / Evolution / others?) by dropping the image on via ftp, then launching telnet any applying the image.

            4) Load on the CCaam emulator app (built into features of Evo - is it a downloadable 'addon' for other images like gemini?)

            5) FTP on, make some config changes to files in CCamm directory

            6) buy a nice legit subscription to viasat to actually watch the channel

              1) For ease of looking for motors etc, go for this : 1m MOTORISED SATELLITE DISH DiSEqC 1.2 MOTOR + 0.2 LNB | eBay, Once you get that just invest in some T&K Brackets to hold your dish steady!

              2) The dreambox 500s is a very good box but bare it wont pick up high def frequencies what so ever!

              3) Not sure on the image, I have heared alot of hype about Niablo on the dreambox 500s, And from what I have read its not possible to use Gemni in a 500s clone anymore!

              4) Most decent and up to date images have the Ccam emulators etc in a downloadable fashion from a Menu strait from box!

              5) FTP is simple to make a few changes to the config files in CCam directory ( By that you mean Ccam.cfg i take! )

              6) the italic says it all, and the answer is yes
