Is this possible to pick up as free to air? If so what channel?

Or does it all depend on what CS?

It depends on what CS mate

You will need a cs. It's not FTA on Astra.
It will be FTA on KA-Sat at 9e next year but you will need a new dish or a multifeed and diseqc switch with a Ka band lnb.

By the way, depending on where you live you may be able to get it fta on Saorview DTT if you are in range of the signal, and your aerial is suitable. Any Freeview HD box will do. I use a ?30 Technika from Tesco, works perfectly!

if you are trying to pick up the saorview channels they are on mpeg 4 and any mpeg2 box wont work.

Freeview HD ( which are DVB T2 spec.) boxes are perfect for Saorview, backwards compatible.

if your CS has Setanta Ireland (which most advertise) then you will pick it up.

I have Freeview HD mpeg2 it doesn`t work for Irish , i bought a mpeg4 box from China and it picks up all UK free-view plus RTE 1 , 2HD , 2+1, TV3 , E3, TG4, and a far better picture ,
