    W3C :: 16? EAST

    The W3C satellite, built for Eutelsat by Thales Alenia Space has been successfully launched on Friday October 7 by a Long March 3BE rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre (China).

    Scheduled to enter service at 16? East in November this year, W3C will replace Eutelsat***8217;s EUROBIRD***8482; 16, W2M and SESAT 1 satellites.

    Through its configuration of 53 Ku and three Ka transponders it will provide capacity for broadcasting and telecom/data services.

    High-power footprints of Central Europe and Indian Ocean islands will support digital video broadcasting markets while coverage of Africa stretching from Senegal to South Africa will serve data and telecom markets.

    Launch date: 07/10/11
    Launch details: Long March
    Satellite construction: Thales Alenia Space

      id give it a couple of weeks for the in-orbit tests to be carried out and then the new/current channels should arrive and signal levels should improve, regards mdt

        could be sooner than that as with all satellites they do their first and main bout of tests at a different orbit very soon after launch. as with astra 1N it was testing at 2 east for over 3 weeks before moving it on to 28.2 east.

            third time lucky for this slot as they lost one sat at launch and another in orbit over the last couple of years. regards mdt
