List of weak trasnponders

Hi

My dish needs alignment, it is motorized dish. When checking that dish is aligned correctly and to test that I can get all the sats is there a weak transponder on each sat so that I know when I can view this a channel on this weak trasnponder this means I can watch all channels on that sat instead of flicking through randome channels on the sat?

never mind the weak ones there's a sticky at the top with all the strongest ones you should align to the strongest on Thor then try a few other sats and tweak them till you get the best signal on them as well when you have done that your dish should be following the sat belt

Search Strongest Transponder over Weakest?

Interesting, I was thinking of starting a thread on this matter but stumbled upon this.

I understand and agree with the idea that Adam_UK presented, that when aligning the dish the channel/transponder should be set on the weakest one of the satellite.
This makes sense to me because if you manage to tune in the weakest one available then surely all the rest of the channels/transponders (that are of course stronger than it) would automatically be obtained.

But blueflash234, to the contrary, said that the strongest channel/transponder on the satellite should be selected when aligning the dish.

So could someone please explain to me why the strongest channel/transponder should be sought over all others?
As I'm either not yet learned in this matter, because this thread nor the thread blueflash234 also referred to (Strongest Transponder guide) made any mention of why... OR it is just the way it is with no reason why.

If I set the transponder to 12051V etc. when aligning for 28.2E and 10723H etc. when aligning for 13.0E, and got a good signal for them, I would theoretically be sweetly on the satellite belt, correct?

Things are currently making no sense because the only 'CNN' I have on 28.2E is 'CNN International' that is on 12050 and not 12051. Also this dish was professionally installed by Sky and I have 84% SNR for that transponder and same for SC4, but channels such as ITV2 +1 on a different transponder has 92% SNR =S Further more the working transponder that I have 'CNN International' on isn't even stored under 28.2E o_O

And for 'RTPi Portugal', well I simply haven't got this on my Hotbird dish but strangely I do have the transponder stored. I manual rescanned that transponder and it come up with 8 services, none of them new. So I'm guess that somewhere between 24th Sept and today there maybe was a frequency chance for it... maybe.

Anyway, I'll rescan both satellites and see if that fixes anything.

I'd appreciate it if anyone can get back on those questions I made above. Thanks.

Hi Luca. RTPI on Hotbird is working fine on frequency 10723H s/r 29900. There is no problem with you finding CNNI on 12050 and not 12051. Reason for this is that different receivers tune in channels with different readings due to sensitivity/LNB/dish alignment. Regarding the weakest and strongest channels the thinking is that if you find the weakest channels then, in theory at least, the strongest channels will also be found. As satellites only cover certain areas what may be strong channels for you and me for others they are weak channels due to coverage. Remember also your ability to pick up channels depends on dish size, receiver/LNB sensivity. You should always check if a satellite you are interested in is available for your location and set up.

Ah, so strongest/weakest can vary for some people depending on things like sensitivity/LNB/dish alignment/location/weather/receiver, etc.? Cool. I appreciate that - cleared a few things. I rescanned yesterday and got CNN International on 12051 but now it's back on 12050 for some reason, either way it's doesn't bother me - both seem fine.

Also I tried again yesterday but got nothing for RTPi but I've just done a rescan right now on that frequency and RTPi has showed up as well as 18 other new services. I've got no picture on that channel, I dunno if 85% SNR is too low for it but meh =)

Shall remember specific channels to lock on to when aligning next time. Thanks again!

Hi Luca. Very odd that you are having problems with RTPI channel. When you say that you get the channel but no picture are you sure that it is RTPI and not some scrambled channel etc?? If you press the INFO button on remote does it say RTPI with correct frequency?. When you scan do you need to put in a FEC figure like 2/3? What about the other channels on 10723H, are they working?? Have you tried to delete all channels on 10723H and then re-scanning. Your SNR of 85 is not low but average for HOTBIRD. In the UK satellites like HOTBIRD, ASTRA 1 and FREESAT are very powerful and you should easily be getting signal quality of around 90 or more With my 1m dish i get these satellites with readings of 90-98. With regards to your CNN frequency of 12050 or 12051 its not really a problem. On my receiver i get the RAI channels on HOTBIRD as 10994V s/r 27496 instead of 10992V s/r 27500 as listed. This is to with receiver/LNB sensitivity.
