spiltting sky dish feed

heres one for you lads i'm moving house soon so taking down my motorised dish to take with me
the house i;m moving into is from a housing association only 3 years old whilst i was looking around the property i noticed the sky dish the lady said each property comes with freesat no aeriel 'so if you need to put additional freesat boxes in other bedrooms the connectors are all in the loft
This got me thinking so maybe they have wired the sat dish to a splitter in the loft for future instalations ?
is anyone familer with this setup ?
so my next question is if i was to swap the sky dish with my motorized dish would i be able to move the dish with different boxes providing theres power pass on all ports maybe ?

The dish has a quad LNB (but not the type sky use) it has 4 outputs, one is H one is V one Low band one high band, these feed a multiplexer that can derive as many Full spec outputs as needed, for example if you are feeding 10 sky boxes then you use a 10 output multiplexer or 10 sky+ boxes then you need a 20 output multiplexer (usually 2x10 way cascaded multiplexers) then you run 1 cable from each output to each flat.

If you're wanting to put a motorised dish up I'd say you're best leaving the sky dish up, and putting up your motorised with its own feed coming into your property.. I doubt theres any type of feed splitter in the loft like she said, you cant normally just split a dish feed cable to other rooms like you would do with a freeview antenna, Each Satellite receiver will need its own cable feed from the dish lnb.. A single tuner receiver requires one feed, a sky+ box or other type of twin tuner receiver would require 2x individual feeds from the dish.. It might be the mini dish has a quad lnb or even octo lnb with the unused feeds resting in the loft, but I doubt it..

I run 2 boxes off 1 motorised dish no problem with a 2way splitter with power pass obviously I only use 1 box at a time,you have full motor control at both boxes but lose about 5% snr (agc does not drop)

looked into this no and seems most new build use a multiplexer installed in the loft
some one will be along who works in that feild soon i reckon thats lads

Hi there dick b this sounds interesting as i was going to have a quad lnb fitted so i could run another spare technomate 5300 in another room on my motorised sat and dreambox in another but was always told that one had to control the motor and the other would be a slave. I would say that im probably only ever have one box going at one time so rather than have a quad lnb fitted i could just as you say put in a 2 way power pass splitter?? And if so would an Global f140 do the job?? Hope it doesn,t look like ive highjacked this thread but i think standarren has got his answers and don,t want to sart another thread as i think this is relavent. many thanks for any replys

my guess now is that its a quad lnb with 1 input to the living room and the rest coiled up in the loft

or if it has points in each room she may mean the tail end on the sockets are coiled in the loft and will need extending to the dish.

i do a lot of aerial installs in new builds and the sparks just run coax through the wall to the loft to join to a aerial splitter but if its free sat you will need to join to a lnb

I bought mine from amazon they were less than ?2 each and really work a treat.as said you have full control of the motor from each box without the need for one to be in standby as in the loop through method.you dont lose enough signal to worry about.I dont know the global f140.

NO see post#5 I"ve never tried it as they are in different places but not to be advised as you would get lnb conflict and if both boxes asked the dish to move at the same time it could cause other problems.if you want to do that put a twin lnb on the dish but only one box can then control the dish.
