    STB's which come with 'gifts'...

hey peeps, i was wondering these Set Top Boxes that come with these 'gifts',
what the quality of the 'gift' like? if ya get my drift?

    what packages do they open?

whats the best STB on the market with a gift?

how long does the 'gift' normally last for? like 12 months?

i'd assume they would be very glitchy and get a lot of freezing cause a lot of peeps who buy the box would also be using the same 'gift', am i right in thinking this?

    Well depends really. M
I got a protek UNibox 500, and have had next to no freezing with my 3pm games. (all I use it for, got sly sub).

    So depends really.

Don't buy a receiver solely because it comes with a gift.

Gifts are gimmicks which are prone to lots of downtime, channel glitching and in some cases they simply vanish.

Only buy a box with a 'Gift' if you can add your own C-Line and run ccCam on it, which I think most do these days anyway. This means that once your 'gift' mysteriously disappears you'll still be able to use the box and view pay TV by other means.

i totally hear what your saying!
it seems that a lot of peeps buy these boxes with 'gifts',
i assume it must be newbies and also because these boxes must be easy to setup?

If you want a cheap sd box the protek offers excellent value for money imho. There is no "gift" period it should be open until the whole server goes down which wont be anytime soon.

You do occasionally get some down time on some channels but in the main its fairly unusual and normally not for very long. A list of what is open can be found at the link below.

          **************

A good back up box for me but still much prefer linux boxes.

I"v had a spiderbox 7000HD for over 15mths now and while its had its ups and downs I"m still pleased with it with more than enough stable channels to keep me happy.any unofficial reception of encrypted channels carries the risk of going off air but you pay your penny and take your choice as they say.
they are very easy to setup but none the worse for that ,they are easy to upgrade with good support(for the HD boxes).there is no longer a "gift"period with these boxes as mine ran out last july but now get channels via ethernet and there are lots of them.

              thanks for the replies peeps,
i get the impression that protek and spiderbox seem to be more popular boxes, which one is better?

do they both open the same packages?

To be honest, I feel the protek is better, the dark forces seem to give the best support and give all users info on anything going on.

                Protek for me.

i have to agree the protek is much more reliable
                  and has fantastic support,
the spiderbox seems to be making a recovery but
i just cant trust the team that are behind it

                    interesting feedback!

so how long have some of you peeps had these boxes?
how longs it been since your 'gift' started?

i got a dm800se the other day, very happy with it, its obviously a top notch box!
but i was thinking maybe i should have gone for a box with the 'gift',
but i can appreciate that the 'gift' comes with no guarantee so to speak.

does the gift include s*y uk?

No-one should be buying these `gifts'.. A gift is something you get for free, you are paying extra for this gift, so it aint free obviously. Secondly, there is nothing to say the gift will run out 10 mins after you turn it on.. Wheres your comeback from that?

You should have a good read up instead and speak to the right people etc and get a proper `gift' for free..

i was just asking the question mate
anyways there seems to be quiet a few peeps happy with their services,
dont get me wrong i totally hear what your saying,

but like some said earlier in the thread, if you get a box with a 'gift' ensure you can still put c*cam on, so at least if the gift disappears, all is not lost!
like i says am very happy with the dm800se!

Spiderbox has been running since noc 2009.
Few blips earlier in the year but seems ok again now.

I have a Class Hd usb and its been brilliant. the 3pm kick offs are from Nova with English commentary. Sly Italia also show lots of Prem games. Freezes are negligible really. I'd recommend it.
