    DiSEqC Or USALS

Just wondering, which is better? i know the differeces between the two, but isit better to find the sats by moving it yourself or just letting USALS do the work?

Got a unibox 500, and i dont even know if my box can use USALS, anyone help?

    Cheers.

    just down to personal preference,
on my dm500s i couldnt get usals to work, so had to use diseqc!
but on the dm800se usals works perfectly, imo i think usals is a lot easier and better

usals is not supported on the E1 systems so it would not work any way.

personally i have several E1 receivers and a E2 Vu+Uno and i use DiSEqC but thats mainly because my motor is 10 years old and does not support usals but hey it works fine so why replace it ?.

I use USALS on my TM5400 SUPER. Problem with USALS is that it is software driven and you have little control over it. With DISECQ( 1.2) it takes longer to setup because you have to manually find each satellite and store them but you have more control in terms of tuning them and you dont need to worry about the longitude and latitude figures.

i set the box up for you set to usals/go-to-x 1.3 with your lat/long so it should be running on it now unless you altered the settings. regards mdt

Don't think I've changes the settings, I'll have a look though. But I'm almost sure I haven't. Because I haven't been into that menu.

                Will report back later.

Just a quick question to anyone who knows.

The barclays premier league HD channel on Thor, is that the same as premierleague HDTV on 10e? I.e, with the studio and pundits?

                        Thanks.

My opinion - On a new / modern sat box use ULAS - sometimes they will hunt around and get the satillite for you instead of you fiddling with the fine jog control . In theory there is no limit to the number of sat positions . Discq is older and has a limited range of positions . It needs you to do all the work.
My understanding is that the Discq control sends a command say 1 to the motor and it then goes to the position 1 stored in its limited memory. If it forgets where it is the motor will periodically go back to the reference position and count steps back to position 1.
In ULAS , the information is held in the sat box and it treats the motor as a dumber device . It calculates and tells the motor how many steps to take between the current known sat position and the new desired position. Only if it cannot get the satisfactory channel after a while will it assume that its calibration has failed and do a reset.

THe processors in modern sat boxes are more powerful than the processor in the motor .
