I'm a newbie to this forum, so please be patient with me.
I?m currently investigating options available for receiving free HD TV. In conjunction with this I want to combine the receiver box with a media centre, basically I want the following functionality (listed in order of preference):-
1. Receive free HD TV.
2. Record TV to hard drive.
3. 2-3 receivers to record whilst watching different channel.
4. Internet connections (download movies and surf the web).
5. Blu-ray player.
6. Wireless Network.
7. EPG
I would like to receive as many channels as possible, probably without the additional hassle of installing a positional satellite dish, but would be prepared to do this if necessary.
I believe that only Freesat offers HD channel at present, but I?m not aware of what other companies are planning for the future.
I?ve sourced this card that offers two freeview receivers as well as satellite.
Hauppauge Computer Works Ltd : WinTV-HVR-4000
If I were to use this card then I would have to build the media centre myself, and probably purchase a satellite receiver.
I?m not opposed to doing all the necessary research, and only request a general pointer in the right direction, in order to minimise the amount of time spent searching for the correct websites.
I can receive cable where I live.
At preset my very basic questions are:-
1. Is there one box I can purchase that can offer all my required functionality?
2. Are there two boxes I can purchase that can offer all my required functionality?
3. Do any of my requirements create a particularly difficult problem?
4. Is anyone aware if freeview will be launching HD channel shortly?
