Poor quality when using aerial splitter to view satelitte from other room?

    Hi All

We have recently purchased a spanking new Plasma tv and this has started us to change a few of the devices around the house. Mainly moving our Sky box into the 2nd room because the plasma has built in FreesatHD.

There is a tv in each room. There is a RF (aerial?) connection which was installed for us by an aerial installer about 15 years ago which connectsone room to another so we can link a Satelitte/cable box and view the same channel in both rooms.

As we have an input for each room for the satellite connection I have decided to move our satelitte box into one room and where the plasma is I going to plug the satelitte connection straight into the plasma tv to get the Freesat HD. There are a few channels though which we want to receive on this sky box which are not available on freesat so the plan was to use the RF connection to view these channels on the plasma via this RF connection.

On the back of the plasma though I am using a 2 way splitter which is a cheap one I have to admit, nothing special about it. one which this RF connection from other room plugs into as well as the aerial connection as this tv also has FreeviewHD so that plugs into the aerial connection to receive freeview.

What I have noticed though is using the splitter the picture quality from the sky box is really poor, if I take this splitter out and plug the RF connection straight into the plasma the picture is still not great but much better.

Is there anything I can purchase which will significantly enhance this picture? Can I get such a thing like a 2 way amplified splitter. Willing to pay a premium to get a excellent quality picture. I know its only an RF connection but can I make it better?

Is there a better alternative to an RF connection?

Sorry if this a newbie question. Still trying to pick up all these technical bits!

    Thanks

yes you can buy amplified spitters , usually 4 way like global or slx , and many have magic eye passthrough to allow the remote to use a magic eye at location 2 to operate the sky box through rf2

BUT , analogue rf is one of the worst pictures there is from all that are available , and the bigger the tv the worse the picture will be

if the sky box is HD then ideally use a hdmi cable to connect to the big tv , and depending on lenth of the second tv away from the sky box you could use a long RGB scart lead , or even a scart to phono adapter and use a triple phono lead with yellow.red.white on it direct to the R/Y/W input on the second tv

its also worth pointing out that the rf channel uses a channel between 21 and 69 , so you have to use a channel NOT USED by any analogue or freeview signals from your local transmitter , and the default channel the sky box is on may not be best suited for your purposes , so I would try adhjusting it from 21 upwards until you optimise your signal

here in granada land I find rf30 or rf40 is best as there are no other channels near it

if you have more than one box , daisy chain from aerial to one box , then the sky box , and then use rf1 out to send to main tv and rf2 out to send to the remote tv , and ensure all boxes have different and optimised rf channels
