    First post here goes.

Hi im looking to get a new box had/have a spiderbox which will no longer update so looking to buy new box. i was looking at a protek 9750/60 HD as simple to set up and use (if its like the 9600ip) just wanted to know if it will work with mobile broardband, i have a 3 dongle which goes through a router which is how my spiderbox connected will the protek be the same?. also i like the idea of the auto update on the protek but wouldnt mind getting more into it so bearing that in mind is the protek Mk1 a better choice do you get the package/auto update with the option of when feeling confident could get into the linux more complicated side of it?. If you could reply in an easy to understand way as just getting into this. Thanks Mike.

what do you mean your spiderbox will no longer update?.. the team behind the protek boxs have a excellent track record and are vgvfm but the 97xx series dont have a internal emulator for softcam/b.i.s.s. which has really put me off them and although i havent seen the new mk-1 it isnt a 100% full linux box like a dm800 ect and as far as i can gather runs on a tailored image. if you want a box to plug into your motorised dish and to leave alone then the 9710 or 9760 with do just fine although for the uk channels you will need to look into newcamd or use your own card(if thats poss atm) regards mdt

I think he means his box is over 12mths old and will no longer connect to the ethernet channels,
yeah I bought a 9760HD and its Ideal for what I want in the evening (I"got over 30 film/documentary channels to choose from) but its use is really just for the "bouquet"channels those that want to play may well be dissapointed.

          re spiderbox

No the spiderbox will no longer take an update went into f100 and would not come out so i used a recovery tool to fix until next update happened again this time i can get most of the menu in place (no where to put in sat details/ motor/ lat/long) very basic menu. have tried loads of times to reflash but wont take it gets to 20% and stops says usb memory full which at first i believed but several good quality usb sticks later still nothing also sometimes happens with channel list which dosnt save, and softcams. i think its an issue with the box mabe faulty?.

Have you tried loading the patch via the loader supplied with the repair kit?

PS even the protek doesnt always auto update but loads patches via USB no probs.

              re spiderbox

Yes i downloaded the recovery tool which also included the loader it worked fine first time, still got the error when trying to put anything into box with the usb but opened channels fine, worked fine. then happened again used recovery tool only got a short version of the menu and still wont except anything other than softcam with usb and cant use recovery tool again as wont do it anymore? so i can only think that something internal maybe memory inside the box has gone down.
