    signal quality and slight pausing

    Merry Xmas people :-)

I get 85% intensity on 28.2 as that's what I asked the antenna guy to set it to but I do have a concern that the signal quality is causing slight glitching as it only shows 72% which is yellow on the bar chart when I'm watching sly 1 etc but If I'm on 4HD I'm gettin 83% quality and no glitching at all .... Why is this and is there any thing I can do to get sly channel quality up ?

    Many thanks,

The installer should have got the values the other way around the AGC should be lower and the SNR should be higher this is what affects signal quality, if your using a Zone1 sky dish and only getting 83%SNR on CH4HD then your dish needs re-aligning as CH4HD is on on 1N at the moment and booming in so your SNR should peak at 100%

you cant offset SNR against AGC you adjust the dish to get the highest SNR(quality).signal quality of 72% on most boxes will give a good stable picture.the figures for both snr & agc will vary from box to box on the same dish as they are only an indication and not accurate.(if it says 100% snr it isnt) I think your CH4HD is ok while the sly channels glitch is because CH4HD is FTA and you dont say how your sly channels arrive!!!! or on what STB.

I have not done 1 install yet where the AGC is Higher than the SNR and thats checking both on an horizon DVBS2 and Rover STC meter, Plus CH4HD currently on 1N comes in at 99% on both meters only because they cannot show a 100%.

AGC is not the quality its the SNR which affects quality.

Comparing the quality and signal strengths are irrelevant unless using a sat meter as all receiver tuners are calibrated differently and are of varying quality.

very few people use sat meters and any questions about signal and quality are nearly always based on what is seen by the receiver inbuilt meter which is always inaccurate

if you forget about rover or laguna handheld meters and stick to boxes ( and he did not say which box he owns ) the signal level is invariably higher than the quality , but it is the quality that counts , as you can get a white noise signal level or one from pointing at a microwave

the fact is that in over 10 years I have never seen a box give a signal or quality of 99% or 100% and I never expect to either
even my zone 2 dish and sly plus HD box is only showing about 80% and works just fine

sounds to me as if his levels are ok on both channels as most boxes will work at rates of over 40% never mind 80%

his troubles will be that c4HD is fta and no scrambling , whereas his sly1 is probably on a c line and glitching due to that fact

he will probably find all his fta work ok , and if he placed a subbed card in the slot its likely his sly1 will also e glitch free , therefore its a classic case of blaming the installer when in fact its something completely different, and a bigger dish and an inverto ultrablack lnb would also help
