    Freeview pros/aerial install probs

First off I know this is in the wrong section but we don't have a "Freeview Section" from what I can recall. So maybe you guys will be able to shed some light on this problem that I am having?

Can someone please help me out as I am trying to install a Freeview boxes in all my rooms at home.
At the weekend I installed what I thought was the best setup money could buy, all new cables and splitter/booster and terminations. But once all the kit was installed and powered up my pictures were worse than when I was using an indoor aerial that I got form Argos. As you can see from the diagram I have used my existing aerial that was on my roof already. I know this is not a new digital aerial but none the less it will work as long as you used set top boxes on all the TV?s so I have been told. I have checked the signal strength in all the rooms with my meter and the signal is booming in all the rooms. I plugged in the new are cable to the digital set top box and auto scanned. It found 90 new channels and was working fine. I then had a look at the TV?s in the bedroom and kitchen to see if they were just as good, but as they do not have a digital set top box they had to be tuned in using analogue. The pictures on the analogue TV?s were worse than when I started. But as I said my signal meter is telling me that the signal is very strong in these rooms. So I found a -3db attenuator in my tool box and plugged this into the feed on the splitter/booster in the loft and this made the picture a bit better in both rooms. Do you think that I need to reduce the gain on the signal by attenuating further?
