    Sky react to pub ruling

Sky Sports have reacted to Portsmouth landlady Karen Murphy winning her legal battle to show Premier League games via an imported satellite from Greece.

The PL rights holders have written to licensees warning them they are breaching copyright by screening a PL feed that does not show Skys pint glass or red dot logo that authorises pub broadcasts.

But increasing numbers of fans are now watching live matches on laptops picking up foreign feeds via links advertised on Twitter. The PL, aware of this latest threat to rights values, are banking on the Digital Economy Act making it easier to police the internet

So now basically if you don't have a paid sky pub sub with pint glass logo, you are breaking the law by showing a non commercial sub in a commercial premise.

maybe they have a point as pubs are receiving extra income from showing the games so they should pay a premium for it...........................but the prices sky charge............well........extortion???/

              Again

Why are sky getting involved in a English premier league matter.

It's not English law that only sky can show EPL matches in pubs.

If true sky are jumping a little ahead of themselves ,

What is true is that you are not allowed to show sky tv in pubs unless you have a commercial subscription with then (pint glass)

They have no duristuction in relation to overseas broadcasting rights.

I've thy want to control EPL broadcasting they need to our purchase ALL rights including overseas but guess what under competition law there not allowed to.

Copyright is the thing in question.
                    They own it in UK.
No restrictions here as other countries have bought copyright for their county.

Anyway they dont own copyright to EPL broadcasts - They rent the broadcast rights for 3 years.

                      Sky own nothing

Just to add, the pint logo is to prove sub is for commercial premises, all the bought in subs are domestic subs.

the eu tv broadcasters have paid to show the epl in there respective country's only the commerical business that are showing the footie through greek or whatever receivers if the tv company find who is showing what they are within there rights to switch it off to these receivers i would imagine there would have to be a new agreement in place that opens the market place totaly where all the tv company's are able to compete to sell there wares, when the new round of talks to distribute the epl rights dont be surprised if s*y is not distributing it next time round then they would be just like all the rest of the company's trying to sell to anybody

imo rupert has too much power/influence and at the end of it all he will win because if karen murphy wins it will set a precedent and open the floodgates for all sorts of stuff. regards mdt
