    Change region for sky

I wonder if anybody can help me with this - I have a place in spain and brought a sky box out to there to watch sky of a communal dish - this works fine but I am from Northern Ireland and Ulster TV at home is on channel 3 but in spain its channel 913 - is there a way to set my box manually to think its back in northern ireland ? thanks

I do have a card for it but it still seems to default to some random region

the card is postcoded and will default to that postcoded region of the uk or eire

removal of the card will default the box to london

only sly can change that regional postcode on the card

easiest way is to put channel 913 in as a blue button favorite

So I have a card and bring it to Spain even with sky's help can I set my box up withthe handles I have at home? If I brought my card that works at home out to spain and put that in what would I expect to happen? Thanks

nothing unless you ring sky up and get them to pair that card to the box. also be careful with what you say to sky as your in breach of their TOC's bu taking the card or receiver out of the country and they could cancel your sub as a result if they were to find out. unlikely but a possibility.

card is only paired to box for sky plus or for movies and sport , nothing else

so a working card without sports . movies and plus will work in any box , and the postcode on that card will regionalise said box for you ( as I said earlier )

so a card from scotland will give different bbc and itv than one from birmingham would

and if you do pay for movies and sport you need the box sly paired it with , or use a spiderbox or dreambox instead

the point here is that the terms and conditions do not allow you to use it outside the uk and so if you ring sly and they know you are abroad they are likely to sanction your account

but you do wahtever you feel you need to do , and you may get away with it , but dont expect miracles

yes with a softcam and the correct configuration files in place.

softcam has no relevance to using a sly card in a dreambox, a softcam is only used for getting channels like bulsat on 39e using an emu like mgcamd + the dm softcam

a correctly setup dreambox running oscam will accept and use a card

and what do you think oscam is then ?.

                        the definition of a softcam.
a software emulation of a Hardware based C.A.M = conditional access module, the primary use for decrypting premium paid for encrypted tv channels with the use of a legitimate subscription card.

the standard softcam relates to a bunch of keys in a txt format called a softcam and is loaded into the relevant box using relevant loaders , such that said keys are used with an emulator like oscam , but more usually the ones listed below

ie:- oscam is a form of emulator , much like cccam , newcamd , mgcamd

so its not what you refer to at all , as they are commonly known as emulators , or emu for short

                          I use softcams on my dreambox 800HD , blade , spiderbox , icecrypt , tm1500 and tm9100 , along with a suitable emulator

so using a standard definition softcam on any box is irrelevant in this case , whereas using newcs or oscam emulators on a tm9100 or dm800 linux box is

that is what my definition of my answer is , and has been for several years already

                          so your answer says

                          the definition of a softcam

                          but should actually say

                          the definition of an emulator

                          ie:-

                          the definition of an emulator
a software emulation of a Hardware based C.A.M = conditional access module, the primary use for decrypting premium paid for encrypted tv channels with the use of a legitimate subscription card.
try opening a softcam file using notepad , then compare it to oscam config files in notepad , you will soon see they are nothing like each other

the emulators use bin files , a softcam does not , and my dm800 is running oscam dvb-api right this minute , and does not have a softcam in the var/etc folder or anywhere else on it either
