    New installation advice

    Hi guys,

Great site you've got going here, I stumbled on it in Google when researching a new setup, since I'm totally confused by everything, I thought I'd sign up and pick your brains! (Sorry!)

I've been meaning to leave Sky for a while now, the selection of football matches is woeful, and I'm tired of paying ?50 per month for it. I've been doing some research into getting a custom setup, but I've run into some issues. A local installer said he could do me a Spiderbox and a motorised dish for ?800 - having checked out the cost of the components on eBay and the internet in general I've found I can get them for ?200 or there abouts - so he's obviously trying to shaft me.

Firstly, I'm almost certain it's the 1m dish I'll be going for - as I'm in North Wales. But what I'm not sure about is which box I need.

I've seen people touting Dreamboxes, and loads of others. The one I quite fancy is a Spiderbox 9000HD - although I'm not sure how it's any better than the less expensive Spiderbox 7000?

I mainly want this setup for EPL games, but since we're losing Sky I think the missus will be mithering me for movies too.

I'm not looking for a top of the range setup, but it would be sweet to be able to watch all EPL games. I'll be getting a mate to install the dish, but I'll be doing the receiver myself, so if anyone can recommend a decent one to me for what I need, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I know there are some things you're not allowed to talk about on here... but would I be able to get Sky channels on a Spiderbox for example?

Anyway... that's enough questions for now. If anyone wants to help a n00bie out, I'd be really appreciative!

    Cheers :-)

The ?800 is way extortionate if i where to charge those prices i would have retired around 10 years ago and be putting my feet up now in my villa in the bahama's.

i know the spiderbox is a great box from some of the owners on here and it should give you what you want in some terms butyou may have to add something to it at a later date to get you everything you want as i do know the ethernet side is a bit flaky, Nothing to do with the box but other means.

if your deffo going for a 1m then try either a Gibertini or a Triax 1.1m coupled with an Inverto Black Ultra, and dont scrimp on the cable either none of this RG6 crap put some decent triax, webro or caracol CAI approved cable in just to sqeeze that extra couple od DB out of a long run.

Depending on your mount is it over a gutter ground mount or south facing wall if so for the wall T&K's with a decent bit of scaffold pole this is true also if your going over the gutter, Gives you a bit of play to get the pole plum.

    Good luck

if you dont need a coaxial rf output or cam slot then the 7000 is fine

get a darkmotor and say the triax 1.1m dish , with T-K bracket mounts and decent cable as mentioned above , and the inverto ultrablack lnb

then once its installed , patched with the nov 15 2011 patch and coupled to your router you are good to go

then just add a good channel list and the latest HDsoftcam ( this HDsoftcam usually gets published a few times every month )

Nice one guys, thanks for the advice!

The coax RF output might come in handy I think - don't suppose you know if Sky eyes will work on it like they do on a Sky box? Not sure about the cam slot though, I don't even know what one is!

Regarding the sat installation I'll definitely be taking your advice on the components.

I'm still really confused by the whole Spiderbox thing though. I know that new boxes come with a "gift" - which I gather is a butt load of channels. Am I right in thinking this "gift" only lasts for a year, after that what happens? Is it a case of getting a new box or? Also, in order to get Sky would you have to take the CS route? (it's not something I'm looking to do, want my setup to be as legit as possible!)

Thanks again for your help :-)

Well, I guess that's me told.

Do you need to worry about something like CS when you've got the "gift" on a Spiderbox - does that offer as much choice as CS or?

Just having a look at buying the components I need on eBay, seems to be the cheapest place to get them (most of the companies listing on eBay have their own sites, but their prices are more expensive than their eBay listings). I found this one:

Satellite receiver spiderbox full motorised system supply & install | eBay

Does that seem a reasonable price for supply & fitting?

Alternatively, if anyone on here is near North Wales and fits these systems, give me a shout!

            Cheers!

for everything you want........i would suggest the cs route and not the spiderbox.

              hd receiver= ?150
              motorised sat system = ?130
              install = ?150

those prices are at the very top end..................you should get things cheaper than that.

you said you mate can install for you so....even cheaper

get a scaffold pole and use the T & K brackets to fix the pole....making sure its dead straight (using a leveller) then mount the dish and components onto it. use a sat meter to line up a strong sat (28.2e i use as it's the one i can see pointing from next doors house )

once lined up its easy to get the rest of the sats up.

              something like this....http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triax-1-1m...item1e632cdb28

Awesome, cheers for that! Will do a little more eBay research now!

Thanks again for all the replies guys, very much appreciated.

the "gift" is cs , so dont assume its anything else

then after 12 months (or before if you so wish) you can sort out your own cs

dont be fooled into thinking it is legit , none of it is unless you subscribe to the provider of your scrambled channels, which usually involves a subscription card , same as sly or vermin

anything without a subbed card or subbed system is not legit , it really is that simple

Cheers for that. I guess there's a lot of mis-information out there. When I spoke to a local firm about installing it all they touted it all as totally above board due to that ruling that was made on behalf of a pub landlord down south (can't find any links to the story but it was recently). A person I know has had a box installed by this firm which *appears* to be using CS. Pretty shady of them to be installing systems and telling people they're perfectly legit when they're clearly not. I guess if you're not clued up on satellite TV you've got no reason to disbelieve what they say. At least I know better now.

Anyway, I've learnt a lot from this thread and from a few hours of research. Decided on the satellite component, but I've been advised by various people to go for various boxes, literally haven't a clue which one to go for now!

It's between the Spiderbox 9000HD, the Dreambox 800HD, Protek 9710, and the TM5402HD. Time to do some more reading.

Thanks again for all of the replies, much appreciated.

you mean the karen murphy case for this legal part. the high court dont rule on that until at least feb 24th 2012 , and in any case the cs element of the spiderbox would still make it illegal unless you sont inten to use it and use a subbed method that was legit instead

KM subscribed to a legit nova sport system and package using a legit box and legit subbed card

in your case you are looking at boxes that will all require cs of some sort unless you plan to get a subbed card instead

the only ones that use a built in form of cs are the spider and protek , the others require you to get your own
