Hopefully we will get a clearer picture where we stand in the next few months, what we will need to buy or maybe something else will come along.

      Fingers crossed.

Hi Alunfennell I am from across the pond and you're right
most on this side do think Europe has a crack for n3 especially the newbie's.
N3 hasn't been fully implemented here yet and when it is
there gonna find out were all in the same boat. And I to believe it's going to be a long time if any before a crack.
and rumors will run rampant. where everybody has a fix trying to squeeze every last penny out of a lost cause.

im from canada where we get bell express cdn sat provider
there is nothing new here on an n3 crack as of yet .and probably wont untell dish is fully running n3.i cant see anything positive untill then acording tell dish is fully changed over ,just like n2. it would be fullish to do so .
dish has about 11-12 million subs .it will take a while .
why have a crack now when all they have to do is change software and make that much harder for a n3 fix? just my 2cents.

Sorry mate! No crack in Europe for the last 18 months or so
and I don't think there will be one for across the pond either.
I would sub to your provider for now.

It's very hard to get a true read in North America about the status of N3. The big money is clearly in the FTA business, which is worth billions. Ideally, FTA would like to see optimism high so consumers will think a N3 fix will come soon so the manufacturers can sell their current inventory of N2 receivers. On a pure greed basis the manufacturers would like to be able to provide a N3 solution utilizing all new equipment followed by an additional hardware sale of MPEG-4 receivers.
The plastic hardware people, those manufacturing loaders and programmers for testing cards, haven't been selling hardware in a long time and would love to sell new hardware. The two groups have a symbiotic relationship and try to keep it a secret. The plastic hardware manufacturers and software hackers need to open the Rom 240/241 card before the FTA people can emulate the ROM/Eeprom unless a disgruntled satellite provider employee sells the info directly to FTA.
Many so called experts believe there has been progress by the two groups but the information is still underground. Many would like to disclose that progress; but, there is clearly a tight lid on disseminating any information. There is an unwritten agreement that if you release any information then you will become an outsider and information will cease to flow.
Although you have much more experience with N3 then we do, I believe, North America will help you this time around although time will tell. I would not expect anything from North America for the next 3-6 months as that is the timeframe for completing the US cardswap.
