Do bigger (185cm) dish's provide better reception to 80cm dish's?

I currently have a 80cm dish (i think). and I get some jittering in bad weather and other times.

Do bigger satellite dish's provide better reception and less jittering?
- How about in bad weather?

Sometimes on Asian channels, we don't get a good signal at all (around 60-70%). Would a bigger dish solve this?

How big? 1.0? 1.2? 1.8?

Also, Can anyone install a big dish on their house? (We own the property, large house)

Has anyone got a big dish specifically because of this issue?

Yes a bigger dish would get a better signal, but if your talking about 28.2e, then is it not just an alignment issue. Because an 80cm dish should be able to pick up 28.2 perfectly.

an 80cm dish for viewing channels from the sky satellite should work perfectly just about anywhere in the uk ,as the signal from the sky satellite is quite strong .so if your trying to view channels on the sky satelite with an 80cm dish and your having signal problems there really can be only a few reasons . the first reason and most common is that the dish is out of proper alignment (this can happen during storms and strong winds ) if this is the case you need to get an installer to realign the dish.

the second thing it can be is a faulty lnb ,if it is it will need changing as it will only get worse.

you would probably need planning permission to install a 1.8 meter dish as its quite large .

I was lookin at this as i wanted a bigger dish then my current 80cm dish, i found these 2 sites with the allowed dish sizes, both say different sizes though .

and the limit for a diseqc motor is 1.2 metre , so its a polar mount with actuator for the bigger ones , and a vbox to operate it

1.2m is ample for the uk for the usual satellites , but the most important aspect is location,location,location

this means that in cyprus or crete you need a massive dish for 28 east , whereas here in the uk a 39cm or 59cm dish is ample , and 80cm to 110cm is more than ample

all depends what you are viewing , and where from , and any dish over 1 metre needs planning permission , assuming no local bye laws or conservation area limits or bans them anyway

Generally, you can get away with anything that isn't reported to the council, so if you have a large garden surrounded by hedges/fences, then you may get away with a large dish - out local council only found out about my 4m dish when a fence blew down and an ex-councillor up the road could see it.

There was a recent ruling by the European court that receiving TV is a fundamental human right and a council (or property owner) cannot stop you from having a suitable dish - although they could successfully argue that 1m is suitable.

if your arying to hit 9e then its harder to get a strong signal for asia net channels. ive sorted a few with a normal sky dish here in glasgow. dish needs to be tweeked and on a solid pole not one of then thin aluminium ones
