I'm looking basic advice for 1st timer ;o)

    Hi,
I'm looking at buying a receiver, as cheap as possible to just to dip my toe in the water and make sure the family are happy with it (they're used to all the thrills of sly+)
Would prefer a hd one really but not essentila but will defo need to be able to record
I would prefer a simple setup if poss.

If all goes well I may look at upgrading at a later date to a motorised setup but for now will just be wanting the channels I can get at the minute.

Lastly would it be best to get one with a gift or shall I get the gift from elsewhere? If from elsewhere could anybody recomend anywhere?

    Thanks

u want sky + like recording one channel and watching another? then you need a twin tuner.. starting at roughly ?190ish... cheapest hd recordable box is openbox at around 60 notes
    Fave replies from various threads

1: What the fff is all that about??? All that crap below your reply I mean, get a life mate
2: no info on google abt the pace sv5 rang asda they have no idea what i was talking about,
3: Your total contribution to this forum, bordering on trolling, seems to have been a collection of snipes, one liners & asterisked expletives

whatever you decide , ensure its HD

cheapest are the openbox and eagle HD

better boxes are blade and spiderbox or a protek , the latter 2 have gifts , otherwise its get your own

any of the HD versions of the above will suffice , but recording will be to usb stick or usb hdd

        Thanks for the quick replies.
I think teh twin tuner will come later, I'll just use the new box and when I'm recording watch the tv's built in freeview.

I've been looking at the eaglebox as they seem to have decent writeup. Does anyone know if they are ok and pretty straight forwardish to setup to watch all the channels?

best single tuner hd box without a doubt is the dreambox 800 se.. its the box with the most support.
again eaglebox looks good.. but at this time, the support just isnt there...

            hi
if you can stretch to the price of the blade you will have a good first time box thats 20 mins to set up and very user friendly and has a good 7 day epg for recording and just keeps getting better with every update

the dm800hd or se are also good boxs but take time to understand and setup and are more for the sat hobby user that likes to spend a few hours learning i have both and like both boxs

i just think for someone starting off and looking a handy setup you cant go wrong with the blade7000s

All recent receivers that are hd are 3d, it's your telly that needs to be 3d .

I would have to go with what shady has said here that the closest to a SkyHD box is going to be either a Single tuner DM800se or maybe a Clone VU+ Duo. The Blade is good but its a starter box and if you ever come to upgrade the DM or the VU will command a higher secondhand price than what the Blade 7000,TM5402HD can

I dont believe you said that the difference between an 800pro and an 800se is night and day the 800se is way ahead

the biggest difference between the 800hd pro and 800se is the speed of the 800se. it's lightening fast. everything else it's not massive amount of difference.

Have been thinking of getting a Dreambox 800 as it seems to be well recommended, but also very tempted on the Protek 9760 HD, because of the free gifts. Is it easy enough to arrange your own gifts on the Dreambox?
