    Still confused

    Hi All,

my existing satellite went up in smoke last week and I have been looking at replacement satellite receivers when this forum was recommended to me.
I have a fixed dish on Astra 28.2?E and I am fed up of lining the pocket of certain advertising moguls.
From reading plenty of posts on the forum, the consensus appears to be to go for a Linux receiver.
    So I am thinking of a either a Dreambox dm-600 or a Technomate-9100.
Does anyone have a noobie setup guide for these boxes and a list of channels I can recieve on the Astra 28.2?E satellite while keeping my hard earned cash in my pocket.
My better half, or so she calls herself, is getting cranky not watching Jack Bauer, so I need to sort this out soon

    Many thanks

i hope your good with a computer and flashing receivers
these are linux boxes and can be a steep learning curve
for any one new to them, having said that if you prepared
to read and ask questions eventualty you will get up and running but this is'nt like a standard sat receiver wher you just scan the sats and chns in, they need a image loading then the addons and cam etc: loading and to get the best from them they need to be connected to the computer.
but in the light of the latest encryption changes a ordinary sat receiver is'nt now opening very much and most have to use a diablo cam or a card to get extra channels that could go down anytime, now you ask about the channels on astra 28e even with a linux box you will only open the free to air chns and even the cheapest satellite receiver can open these chns, and for the chns your asking about the only way to get them with a linux box is by joining a c/s group, or with a subscription for the service from this satellite,
next with a fixed dish on 28e your options are very restricted you need a motorised system and at least 1mtr dish to get the best of whats available. if you do go for a dreambox or any other linux receiver the users on the forum i'm sure will help you to get up and running, this could look like a gloom and doom answer i just want you to know these are tricky
to get used to but the benifits are great once mastered.

        Hi Guys,
Many thanks for the advice. I'll be looking for a Dreambox and google for c/s
Could you recommend any uk based suppliers for a genuine dreambox - not a clone.
        Cheers
