    RF Modulator problem

Now Ive been all day at this and main tv is working perfect but the rest of the tvs that Im trying to tune sky into are bad picture..

Ive reverted back to the original sky digibox to see if it is working. The rf coax cable does not work in the rf out 1, it has to be plugged into the rf out 2 9v DC 50mA max

This is obviously the problem, why is the rf only working on this rf out 2 port and how do I solve this issue for my dm500s and rf modulator setup.

plug your old box in press services,4,0,1,select and take note of rf settings then set this number on your rf modulater for your dreambox.

Im back home now so wont be able to get up to my friends house til tomorrow.

Thanks, will try that but not sure if it will work.

I find it strange that the cable feed has to go to the rf out 2 9v dc 50ma max of the sky digibox. It is a poor picture if I plug into the rf out 1 on the sky digibox.

Getting the same poor picture when using dm500s and rf modulator.

So the problem is within this rf out 2 port, what is the difference between rf out 1 and rf out 2 9v dc 50ma max on the sky digibox....

The rf 2 port when activated on a sky box allows the magic eye to work.

you rf 2 will power your splitter that feeds your other tvs.... rf 1
will not......your rf modulator will power most power pass splitters.......BJ1

Yea, just read that. But still doesnt help me, why will I not get a good picture when using the rf 1 and why is it not working on the modulator box

Must be some way to fix it. The guy does have those magic eyes but dont think he will not be too bothered if they cease to work.

Just need to get a proper picture....

your splitter needs the power to distribute it to your other tvs
and thats why you get a poor picture without it.

                So what is the solution?

Should I buy a new splitter box, new modulator?

most rf modulators are powered and will power most power pass splitters if your sky box was powering it usually the rf modulator powers them... so try putting the correct rf channel number in first
if this dont work then you will have to try another splitter.

Can you send me a link to a recommended splitter box. Never actually bought one.

So why does it matter what rf channel it is. Will it only be powered using certain channels.

it matters because each tv transmitter has half a dozen analogue and half a dozen digital channels , so approximately 10 to 12 are in use for the local tv terrestrial channels , and so should be avoided

add to that you will get "ghosting" on some of the "dead" channels and you will find only a few are suitable for distributing the sky channel by rf , or using an rf modulator

add to that that you may need to power a splitter box and magic eyes and your problems start to mount up

So I should revert back to sky digibox and go to serviced menu and check rf settings to see what channel is being used and use that channel with the rf modulator box then it should work.

If that fails then you think I should get a new distribution box, so what distribution box should I get that differs from my current one....

Cheers Ian, going to finish it tomorrow so jus trying to get as many solutions as possible.

I did offer the idea of the vcr but he preferred the smaller rf modulator box.

Will give it a go tomorrow, fingers crossed...

We definitely noticed a slight decrease in picture quality on the main tv but I guess that is to be expected when using this setup...
