Receiver - Which one to buy....

    Hi Guys,

I've just installed a motorised system at home but have found that the Openbox S11 is not compatible with a Technomate motor. The supplier has exchanged the box and re-sent an S10 which has the same issues (keeps powering off when trying to move the motor).

To cut a long story short, this is my first install, so I'm looking for a cheap receiver which can be used for c/s (client only) which will work with a TM2600 motor. I'm not even bothered about HD as SD quality is good enough for me.

Any suggestions for a cheap but reliable box?

    Thanks in advance.

for a small budget of less than ?100 there is the spiderbox 5000 SD , or eagle 800HD , or a clone dreambox 500s , for a bit more there is the blade bm7000s or the spiderbox 7000 HD

My Oopenbox s9 works my TM motor perfect. The receiver is not the best for motorised systems as they have very limited channel memory, 5000 I think it is. I had the same problem a while ago with the receiver powering off and it turned out to be faulty cable, changed the cable and everything was fine after that. Hope this helps.

Get a TM500super or TM600 very cheap at around ?60 and will have no problems with the TM motor and also none clones.

                    Thanks

Thanks for all the replies guys. Unfortunately I cant take the TM2600 motor back as I've already installed it and its been up about a month.

I though the Openbox would suffice and was a good cheap option however the build quality is poor and the issues with power are frustrating to say the least. It seems that only the later build models are affected. However if you get a good one, they will do exactly what they say on the tim - A good, cheap box but if youre thinking about getting one and using it with a motorised system beware.

I've decided against a dreambox on the basis that if I got one it would have to be a top end one, which would go against my budget.

I have already been looking at the TM500 Super and it looks like it will suit me nicely. Only query I have is that I saw somewhere that its an FTA only box. This shouldnt affect CS should it?

Also any suggestions where to buy? There a local seller on ebay selling them for around ?75 which seems reasonable. I'll then sell on my S10 and notify people that if they intend on using it in a motorised setup to ensure everything is compatible first.

                    Thanks Guys
                    Phil

Thanks. My setup at the moment is very simple - I have the motorised setup just outside my spare room window, with a F connector lead running from the LNB to the motor (LNB port). Then a cable running from the motor into the room to a receiver (cable length is only around 2m). Once I get the dish etc aligned correctly I will run a longer cable to the location where the receiver will be permanently located.

I've checked the cable from the motor to the receiver but havent checked the LNB cable. I'll double check that tonight.

                      Thanks

The TM500s is the same as a DM500s Enigma1 box so you can run the same as you can on the DM500s

Due to th sub ?100 budget I very much doubt. Would get a decent HD receiver hence SD would suffice. To be honerst SD is good enough for me anyway.

It sounds like it's drawing too much power - have you access to a test meter to show the amps it's drawing, [well, if it's not a receiver's power issue].

There is a crude tension adjuster on those motors- if you are sure you can't return it you can try easing that off - it's covered by a 'void if seal broken' label - 3 screws - the top 2 an inch apart need easing off a little first & the bottom one is the actual adjuster- slacken that off while checking for play on the motor - you want it eased off a bit but not so the motor is too sloppy.... then tighten the other 2 back up. We use a sat meter that monitors amps draw to set them- really don't like that adjuster on the Motecks/ TMs - very crude.
