Sky box problems - system resets don't work

Digital Kaos seems like a really useful site.

I have an old (out of subscription) Sky box that suddenly stopped working yesterday, for no apparent reason. I know the satellite is OK because my other TV works fine. On the box that stopped working, I have tried all three different system resets that I found on here, and none of them has worked. I've got as far as the green circle flashing on the front of the box, but that's it. Can anyone please help before the thing goes flying out the window?

what do you mean by not working? does the box power up? have you access to menus? have you tried software download?

The box has power, and I have access to the menu list but that's as far as it goes. If I try and select a channel, it just says 'searching for listings'. I have tried doing system updates i.e. unplugging, then plugging back in at the same time as pressing the 'back-up' button, then waiting while it updates. That didn't work, so I unplugged again, then plugged back in and pressed and held the buttons either side of 'select' on the box and, again, nothing happened. These of two of the suggestions I have found on this website. I just wondered if anyone else has any ideas, please?

It stopped working when I tried to change channels; it suddenly would not let me select another channel even though it was fine until then.

Ok is it a quad lnb?
If so change the port on lnb to a spare one to try.
You will get "Searching for listings" is there is no signal from the dish. Press SERVICES then select SYSTEM SETUP and then SIGNAL TEST.

If you don't have a good enough signal unplug the box from the mains and check the connection from the dish to the box. You might also want to check the dish hasn't been damaged or moved by a storm (or similar).

Manico - thanks for your reply. I've had the box and TV swiched on for most of the day hoping that something would happen, and it's just switched itself back on!

Thanks for taking the time to advise, though.
