    DM500c Free-sat over LAN.. Help!

    Hello!

So, I have a DM500-c that I'm trying to use with a ex-Sky satellite dish to receive free-sat. Plus I'm wanting to do this over my LAN. I'm very green when it comes to this satellite stuff I have to say, but I have it connected to my router and have access to the web interface. Am I being unrealistic?

what I've gathered so far is, it's a cable box that's been flashed with - release v.1.1, 20.08.2008
    -Linux version 2.6.9 (devilfish@devilfish) (gcc version 3.4.4)

So now what? I don't have a null cable modem nor a computer, if I had one, to connect it to. does this mean I'm stuck if I have to flash it?

Anyway, I would really love to get all this working as it's just sitting there not being used and it should imo.

    Any help is much appreciated!

    Cheers!

    Remy.

very green indeed.. 500-c is a CABLE receiver, for use with a CABLE network such as virginmedia.. you need a 500-S for SATELLITE

500C is no good for satellite (except use as a card server).

      You need a 500S

Thanks for the quick reply guys..

Well, if that's that, then fair enough.

I did read tho somewhere here on this forum, of someone having the opposite problem, and that to get their S version working on cable they could flash it with firmware that was both Sat/Cable and something else?.. Know anything about that?

yeah ur probably reffering to mj and elrics conversion of a 500c to a 500 s, it involved a LOT of work and a change of tuner etc... not really faesible, just did it because they can

            Darn!

Oh well. Don't mind hard work but if it involves soldering in a different tuner it's hardly worth it..

Thanks for the help dude! I have broadband coming in via UPC, is there anything for me there?

you can get a dm500s/518s/528s for about ?45 direct from PRC but if your going to spend money then a dm800hd pro would be a better choice for ?105-110, regards mdt
