Satellite Finder

I have a Chess satellite finder, fairly cheep to buy, but I find that it is difficult to pin point the satellite. Once connected it beeps as you move the dish and by turning the leval control you are supposed to be able to lock onto the satellite.
I find it to much of a hit and miss so I wondered if anyone could recommend a good but easy to use finder.

These meters are mainly only for fine tuning, use the built in satellite meter from your box..
Then when you have a lock on your receiver then use the meter

Thats actually quite correct, because of the tuners on each receiver been different (most of the time) some are strong some not, it is easy to pick up a transponder on a sat finder only to find its the wrong satellite or have only tuned in half the satellite you were looking for when your back sitting in your living room, you could find yourself up and down a ladder all day, take outside a tv set and receiver switch on a channel you are looking for and start moving the dish untill the picture pop up, its easy then to see the signal strength and if you have tuned in all channls from that satellite correctly, forget using a cheap sat finder its like pissing in the wind...

If I was an installer I wouldnt expect to be going up and down the ladder at each job. Isnt there a more accurate type of finder that locks onto the satelite.
I suppose if you have a motorised system then it would be ok using the receiver to show the signel strength. If you have to move the dish manualy then it would be slightly more difficult.

Just to make it clear, going up and down a ladder is the method used by myself at the moment. An accurate finder would be far quicker and less tyring.

There are hand held Sat-finders that cost a few hundred pounds which have a tv screen on them for this purpose, you can see the quality of signal and a picture of the channels without having to run up and down a ladder if the satellite dish is far away from the satellite dish. here is a picture of one .
