Used to Cable not Satellite

Hi all

As in the sub title of this forum

Basically trying to get the pm Saturday games .....not for me but the parents - they are presently using a website to stream football to the big screen - and that seems to work quite well

They are pretty happy at that but when I was over the folks house the other day I noticed the software the guy that runs this website was using (it popped up during the game)

it was Vix (hope Im allowed to mention this) anyway this got me thinking how its all done

Have a few cable dreambox 500c still around here that used to work fine until nagra3 on cable but this satellite business is a different ball game to me

Anyway - im looking for any guides or info on what exactly is needed - a noob guide if anyone's got one would be brill

Arrgghh just remembered the download section on this site - so will look at that too but I've written the question now so if anyones got some info it would be great

What's the best receiver about at the moment... say under ?150

you will need a motorised dish of say 80cm to 110cm (the bigger the better) and a suitable receiver within your budget

and you will need an internet feed which we cannot talk about on here

that is what will get you 3pm games on a saturday , and will cost you more than your budget too

to start with u need to decide a HD Receiver or SD..... if u want SD you can get a cheap Dreambox 500S for About 45-50 .... if u want Hd u can Get a dreambox 800hd or a Openbox S10 (?60). then after u decide that u will need a image which u can download and cams and finally a server...

and a dish pointed at almost any satellite except 28e , as you have not considered the fact he wants 3pm saturday games which arent on 28e

Thanks guys I guess for everything including satellite dish etc would cost ?300 or more maybe any recommended retailers out there..... I had the dreambox500c from a site in china that didnt do clones or something ....anything similar for these sat boxes

Thanks for the info....from what I've read online I was guessing along these lines but wasn't really sure... hd box would be the best these days so will have a look into

Is it just a case of flashing with the right image then? Again what do people recommend generally

Also is putting up a satellite dish a DIY job or do you need a sat finder as well .....lots to research here. ..never had satellite ever

it can be done diy but is easier if you have done one or two before

you also have to check line of sight from the walls of the house too

flashing a box isnt enough , you need a pay srvr as mentioned earlier

HD gives more choices as some channels are HD only

all down to your budget as to what you buy , but I would think somewhere between ?300 and ?500 should sort it out , not including a srvr

and only about 5 matches to go now so cannot see you completing this before the season is over

Before you decide anything i would say whats the team the parents support as after the recent ruling and with new enforcement from the EPL unless its one of the big 5 top teams you wont get to see anyone else unless you have a dish the size of a trampoline
