I'm a newbie to this site, and satellite technology in general.
I manage a devlopment of 40 flats, (2 blocks of 20 flats), and we are looking to install a communal Sky HD dish. Due to the large number of foreign residents, we will also be installing a communal Turksat and Hotbird dish.
Had two quotes so far........ The first guy said that he would fit 3 dishes to each block, with the dishes running into a 'box' that would be fitted to the wall of each block, whereby the dishes would connect up to an electricity supply. They would then fit the relevant switches and run the cables into each flat.
Guy 2 says there is no need for the dishes to be connected to a mains supply, and all it needs is for switches to be fitted and cables into each flat.
Needless to say quote 2 came in at around half of quote 1, but I am worried as to whether we need this electricity supply, and what is its purpose. If we go for the cheaper option, would it cause us problems down the line?
Also, I want to make use of the foreign dishes for my own purposes (saturday afternoons!) and Guy 1 recommended a dreambox. Guy 2 said a Technomate box works the same.... Any ideas?
