    "Twin" Tuner

Does having two dvb-s2 decoders in the same box make it a "twin tuner" or is it just a "dual tuner"?

I maybe being pedantic on words but I just wanted to be sure.

in general terms , a "twin tuner" is normally classed as when the 2 tuners are identical , ie:- twins , so 2 sat tuners or 2 terrestrial tuners

a dual tuner can be identical tuners like in a vu+ duo , but is usually a box like the starview combo where it has a cable and satellite tuner , or a spiderbox combo where it has a sat tuner and a freeview digital terrestrial tuner

or you may have a triple tuner system like a dm8000 or similar like an ultimo that could possibly have sat-cable-terrestrial as fitted tuners, or some other combination

so the term "twin" is more likely used where its 2 of the same , ie:- like identical twins as opposed to twins that are not identical

so to be pedantic , I would class a "twin tuner" as identical tuners and a dual tuner as 2 different tuners, like a dual tuner radio that has am and fm tuners built in

      others may seek to differ

        Thanks both...

I was thinking more like the VU+ Duo/Ultimo to be honest, as I may put an extra sat tuner in my dm800, afterall thier cheap enough, and gives me something else to mess about with

          Hi,
Similar way of thinking- Whether it is [possible to instal a TWIN TUNER( borth DVBS- S2 sat)BCM 4305 on my
          Dm 800 SE HD/sunray.

          Is this feasible ?
On which site I can purchase one twin tuner unit.
          Thanks for your assistance.

it is my understanding that only ONE tuner can be fitted into a dm800 , that is certainly the case on mine

whether this changes with SE versions etc I do not know, but I know the dm8000 can have more than one fitted

The Sunray Triple Tuner 800se comes with a DVB-S2/DVB-C/DVB-T so 3 tuners in one although do not get excited as you can only use one tuner at a time so not really a dual or triple tuner as such.

The only way of adding another DVB-S2 tuner to the DM800 & 800se is to get a USB external one at a cost of around ?75 which is still not ideal as you can only use one at once again, and at that price it owuld be cheaper getting a clone Duo.

The Only real Twin Tuner receivers that can use either input at the same time are the VU,Xtrend,DM8000 etc...
