Looking For HD Receiver that can update softcam via usb

    Hi,

I already have a Technomate 5600 which I find easy to use. I need to buy an additional receiver. I want FTA use, preferably HD with being able to update the softcam via USB.

I do not plan to connect the receiver to the internet but I would like a box that could if I require it in the future.

I have looked at the Eaglebox HD Mini, the Openbox S11 and the Technomate 5402 HD. Are these boxes ok?

Should I go for a Eaglebox or Openbox (because of price), do they need to be patched? Can I use the same key file from the Technomate thread, that thread seems to updated regularly

Are there any other brands/receivers that are softcam compatible?

    Thank you.

many boxes fulfil these requirements , but usually each one has its own brand of softcam

so eagle boxes have their own , as do spider boxes like the 7000 or 9000 or 9900 , or the tm5402 that uses the technomate files , also blade bm7000s , and dreamboxes and vu boxes too

I would generally say each softcam is bespoke, so you dont usually use one from another brand

they all need patching before using softcams

Can I ask which brand or make of receiver opens the most channels?

I really thought that all receivers with softcam capability could open all the appropriate channels.

For example, I have recently got an Openbox S11 which opens less channels than my old Technomate.

Is Technomate the best way to go? The max I can spend is ?150 - I hoped to spend less (hence buying the Openbox) but it didn't work out as I had planned.

without internet access they all open the same channels, including using ucas in the patches and a suitable softcam

its the "added extras" that are the bonus, or the ones you pay for privately

Hi, I was advised that on the S11 I could not get E*PN A*erica on 19.2e - I can get this channel on the Technomate.

I was advised that the Openbox could only have softcam for Ird... and Cy..wrks

I am sorry if I am wrong but I just want to clarify the situation on softcams.

obviously the ability of the patchmakers to deliver the ucas is up to them, but if the developers of those patches tried hard enough then my answer would be correct. they all have the ability to open the ucas channels using a suitable softcam providing the patch makers have done their jobs

the softcams usually tell you what packages are opened by the softcam on the particular box they are associated with, be it technomate, spider , eagle , dreambox or whatever

I made an assumption and made a bad purchase (for my needs). The amount of research required to buy the right satellite receiver is scary.

                  Thanks for your help ramjet.

                    Hi,

I'm in a similar position as the original poster, and would appreciate any advice.
As stated above, the opnebox only works with Ird... and Cy..wrks. Do other receivers such as technomate also work with other systems like via****s, nag*******n, b**s and s**a m********d?

                    Thanks in advance

not really, they all do pretty much the same thing

channels opened by biss and the channels opened by the softcams

which isnt a great deal now compared to the old days, as the days of the hacks have disappeared and as you know its either subbed c*rds or cs

No, you're correct. I got stung with that as well, but at least it's only a ?50 box. I've got a DR HD F16 and that opens everything I need.
