    Best Recommended Box

    Hi everyone.

I've had an Openbox s11 for about a week now, to be honest, I'm not impressed with it:

    - Having issues recording HD as it keeps saying device speed is too low
    - the EPG menu us crap, only now and next
    - Switching between channels is very slow

    and many other issues.

So, I'm thinking of returning it, spending it a little more money and get a better box.

Can anyone recommend a decent box that has the following features:

    - Inbult hard drive so that I can record HD
    - Full EPG menu system that shows a full channels list with each program showing (without going into each channel to see what program is on) along with the capability to record a timer program
    - Option to record to HD then transfer to a USB flash drive to video edit on a PC

    Thanks for your help.

generally speaking that info comes under dreamboxes, vu boxes and the new clarketech ET or SL boxes

the majority of other boxes are external hdd by usb or esata only

I would suggest a twin tuner vu or clarke with internal hdd myself, although I dont have one yest

ps:- now and next is the standard format on satellite , so 7 day epg functions are down to the boxes and the software programmers, usually meaning you download them off the net using plugins (with a few exceptions like the blade bm7000s or the tm5402)

      Thanks for your reply.

In regards to the EPG, currenty, does the dreamboxes have the menu showing what is currently on the same screen, rather than going into each channel such as the openbox?

linux boxes have their own epg plugins and skins from the images and so what is shown and how they work depends on which combination you are using

assuming you have it setup correctly you get now and next on the bottom of the screen in a banner when you press ok , or you can get the epg up using the button or buttons assigned to the epg plugin

I have several and they all work differently

but only my dm800HD original can have an internal hdd and is running blackhole and crossepg plugin from what I remember

but that is largely irrelevant to your original question, the point is that most boxes are now and next, some can download epg info from the net like say rytek or crossepg, and a few bespoke boxes use an astra 2 transponder to download epg info

I did say in my first reply that I have no knowledge on the new boxes like the vu or clarke which is what I would buy if I had to purchase one like you asked about and my box hasnt been made for a couple of years or more

                hi
have a close look and vu range of boxs, duo for recording one channel and watching another great box for money

or solo with single tuner same as dm800 enigma2 full epg and use a usb ext hard drive to record onto

both these boxs can be got in clone form for sensible money and use genuine images

unlike dreambox clones that need patched images that loads of people seem to struggle with or get wrong and mess up there box

buy a duo and get twin -quad lnb and you have a cracking setup with some very good fuctions
