Help me choose a receiver please!!!

    Hi all,

I posted a couple of weeks ago re. new setup, I'm after some information about which receiver would be best..

Can somebody let me know the cheapest and best HD receiver that is capable of adding c-lines, or am I to assume that all receivers with an ethernet port support c-lines being added?

I'm also wondering if its better to buy a cheap receiver (non HD) until I have a bit more money to buy a decent one, if so, names please!

    Thanks!

Openbox are great for just watching tv, they're HD & only about ?50! Don't expect it to do much else other than basic TV watching. Best value box is probably the clone Vu+ Solo for just over ?100 or the clone Vu+ Duo for around ?170 if you want a twin tuner.

The Vu's are true linux boxes and are really worth the extra couple of quid over the openbox IMO.

        Thanks for the reply.

Ok, first time i've heard of the VU's, only heard of dreambox and technomates before, is the VU+ solo a better option than the Technomate 5402 and the Dreambox 800HD?

Which has the best EPG and options etc? Can all boxes control a motorised dish?

        Appreciate the help!

most of what you asked is already in this thread below

I would say most if not all 3rd party boxes can control a motor , and these are usually diseqc motors so the boxes have diseqc control

if it was a polar mount and 36 volt motor you would also need a vbox2 as well
