    SKY+ RF2 - But Can't Save Settings

    I have just (and finally!) upgraded from SKY digibox (SD) to SKY+ (SD). The digibox is Amstrad, PVR3 (Drx280).

    The software is as follows:
    OS S = 1.31B10
    EPG = 5.07.u

    Attempting to turn on RF2:

    Using the SKY Remote Control I select Services Button.

    Then 4 -> 0 -> 1 (for the Installers 'hidden' menu)

    I can change the RF Outlet Power Supply to ON.

    But when I try to then use the 'up' and 'down' button on the SKY Remote Control to select "Save New Settings" I find that the box has totally frozen so I never get the chance to "Save New Settings".

    Only way to stop the freezing is to mains power off - and therefore settings are not saved.

    Any ideas? Is the OSS and EPG up-to-date for Amstrad PVR3 for SKY+? Should I force a software upgrade?

    Any help would be brilliant.

    In anticipation, BromsgroveBhoy.

    If you have sourced the box yourself then its always good to do a forced software download to make sure your running the latest software on the sky box, This could solve the problem of your box freezing also.

      Bhoy, I agree with digicon. To force a software upgrade.

      1. Hold down the back up button, on the box itself, not the remote. Keep this held down constantly.
      2. Pull out the card from the box.
      3. Pull the power lead from the box, either the 8-plug going into the box, or the three pin going to the wall.
      4. Wait 10 seconds.
      5. Plug the box back in.
      6. Wait until all four lights on the box light up simultaneously. A message should now appear on screen, saying a software download is in progress.
      7. Now, and only now, do you let go of the back up button on the box.
      8. Download should take roughly 10 minutes, can be less, can be much more, just let it do it's thing. When the lights go off, stick your card back in, and turn on.

      The box may need a manual reboot, plug out and in, to re-initialise with your card details, but usually not.

      Freezing issues should then be resolved, and you'll be able to power your eyes.

          Indeed RF2 is now powered.

          Switch off SKY+ box, connect co-ax cable to RF2.

          All good so far.

          Connected to remote TV. Power everything on. See SKY channel on remote TV via RF2 connection. Result!

          However, SKY channel freezes on the channel and the remote control does not interact with the SKY+ box at either the TV link end or the SKY+ box end.

          Only way to then change channel is to do an on-off power cycle on SKY+ box. Very, very frustrating.

          Did loads of internet trawling but no apparent solutions.

          Any ideas how to solve this?

            Sounds like the Box is on its way out PSU problems. You would have to consider the age of the box itself as the HD thomson ones have been available for over 7 years so a Standard Sky+ Revision 3 could be even older than that.

              I have now determined that the circuit must be shorting somewhere along the route since I connected directly into the RF2 from another TV using a direct cable - all works.

              So now to trace where exactly the problem is i.e. connectors, wall plates etc ...

                In the end it was a co-ax fly lead from the back of the SKY+ box to the first connector that in turn fed the distribution box in the loft. Now have pictures and sound on remote TV (analogue). Other remote TV is *new* (so digital) and is only getting video through the RF connection. Need to consult the manual so see how to get sound.
