Recommendation and advice.

Complete noob here.

Looking to buy some receiver gear. All I wan't is sport (mosty football) really, anything else is a bonus. What reciever with record, <</>> and pause capabilities would do the job? Can I use the sky dish fitted to my house or would I need a new one?

Also is it possible, and if so is there a guide for me to set it up so I can view and control it over a remote desktop?

if you just want sky uk, then ur existing dish will be fine. more football = foreign channels= bigger dish, preferrably motorised.
receiver wise, cheapest is dm500s, cheapest with hd, ff, rewind etc is openbox / eaglebox 800. then onto your dreambox 800 which is, i would say the most popular box, then onto clone vu duos for twin tuner options

Whats the advantage of a twin tuner over the dreambox800? Also do you know anything about the last question or is it best to ask in the PC section?

well the obvious advantage of a twin tuner over dm800 is that a twin tuner has two tuners so you can watch one channel and record another. regards the viewing over pc, its simply a case of entering the ip address of dm into browser and watching the stream from vlc, you can also get an android app to watch on your phone/tablet

Oh ok I never knew that's what twin tuner meant. The streaming seems simple enough but is there a way to control the channels remotely?

yep, via the same ip adress, with a dm, all the functions are accessible via a browser
