Total newbie to sky pls help

    Hi,

Apologies for the question but i'm hoping someone can help or point me towards the right direction.

I'm thinking of getting Sky digi setup. If i wanted to put an openbox/dreambox there instead of the original box, would I need to change the LNR too? Can anyone help me from the scratch or point me towards the right direction?

Also when I get an openbox would I need to sub through a payserver, because the box only retails about ?60-?100.

    Help would be much appreciated.

    Thnks

no, just use the original lnb and dish and cable

yes, you would need a server

no box can work on its own, even a standard sly box needs a subbed and working card

Thanks for the reply much appreciated..

If I wasn't to get sky fitted in, is there a way I could setup the dish and lnr by myself.. How much would I be looking at here? And would this be illegal if used with an open box to get all channels?

Hi. Which box do you have at the moment if any?? To set up a dish/LNB is not that difficult it also depends on whether you want a fixed dished or motorized one. If i were you i would spend a bit of time reading posts in this forum to get an idea of what may be involved with regards to different types of boxes, setup , costs etc. As with everyone the type of setup you go for will depend on your budget.

        Regards.

a sky dish and lnb are cheap to buy and relatively easy to set up as its a fixed dish system. or you can employ somebody to do it for you

as for boxes, they come in various flavours and some are complex to setup, others are fairly simple to setup

then you have to add the server details to open scrambled channels, which is definitely illegal seeing as you asked

ie:- watching pay tv channels without a valid subscription
