I am interested in purchasing this box, however I am unsure about the set up procedure. I already have a sky box and a dish set up; the sky box only picks up freeview. If I connected one of thes,e would I have to realign the satellite at all to receive the "pay to view" channels? Also to install third party firmware, is it a simple case of putting the file on a usb stick and updating via the box? Thanks for any help and feedback given.

your sky box picks up freesat, not freeview (freeview comes in through your aerial)I am interested in purchasing this box, however I am unsure about the set up procedure. the blade (or any satellite box) simply connects to a spare output on your lnb, so hopefully you have a spare output, a sly plus dish has a quad output lnb but single sly boxes have a single output lnb
so you may need to change the lnb to a quad lnb if it isnt one already
no you dont need to realign the dish
updating a blade is easy using a fat32 formatted usb stick
but once completed it will only be able to watch freesat just like the sly box, and needs "extra help" using cs for anything scrambledLast edited by ramjet; 14 July, 2012, 21:11. -
I have a normal sky box, not sky plus. Cant I remove the cable from the sky box and simply connect it to my new satellite box? Also if an "lnb" needs replace, which one would you recommend? Unfortunately my talents don't lie in satellite boxes so thanks for the help.Comment

are you currently picking up freesat channels fine? if so then i dnt think you'll need a new lnb but i could be wrong ramjets the right guy to be speaking to anyway.
I was in the same situation as you a-q-i-b only a year ago i bought the blade such an easy box to set up and its been working well for me with a great picture.

yes you can swap them over and not use the sly box
otherwise you would buy a new sly quad lnb from ebay for about ?6 delivered, and change it on the dish (straight swap) and run a separate cable to the blade, leaving the sly box on its own feed (one feed per box, or 2 feeds per box if its a twin tuner receiver)
so in your case its a straight swap of the boxes and you will get the same free to air channels as the sly box (freesat), or more if the sly box isnt HD as a blade also gets the free HD channels too, as well as the SD channels
then you run an ethernet from the router to the blade , and sort out your own cs for the scrambled stuffComment

check it has a valid internet connection by checking your router and the ethernet cable from that router to the back of your bladehelp. i have a blade media player that up until last night was working fine, my son ( whos denies it) musta been messing with it as i still have all the channels (all the lists etc) but no sly, or any other PPV channels, what part hasne messed with and can is it just a matter of a simple reset> i have checked all cables and the dishes are all ok< please help, a walk thru would be appreciated for ...
