As far as im aware you cant use it unless you are subscribed to sky, its a shame because you have a box there with the functions to record freesat.
On the other hand you could buy a freesat recorder box etc from the net, also you could take appart you sky hd plus box and use the HDD as an external drive if you need one thats what i did and the sky box works perfectly fine still.

a sky box picks up freesat, not freeview

the card will have most of its functions switched off including the PLUS feature and so it wont record or playback any hdd content

it costs about ?10 per month to keep the PLUS feature working, or any sly subscription package

its owned by sly and as such they can decide if they want it to work or not, and they deem it necessary to charge a monthly sub for the service, as they own the rights to sly plus

the hdd in a HD box are SATA , the older boxes use a PATA hdd and either can be used in a pc or suitable box

as mentioned, the plus box will view freesat channels with no hdd inside it

but to use it as a pvr you need the plus feature enabling on the card, which is turned off when they turn the subbed packages off
