    Satellite Dish

I'm looking at getting a large dish, possible a motorised one, possible multiple LNBs.

    Whats wrong with this dish?

    High Gain (40.25 dB) 1m satellite dish & mount (100cm) | eBay

    Why is it only ?30

I'm wanting to watch 19.2E for rugby league and others for 3pm footy. I live in yorkshire, is 100cm too big? Not big enough?

Looks OK its a copy of an Orbital 1m dish now whether it performs the same is another matter at the end of the day you pay your money you take a chance, On the other hand it could be absolutely fantastic who knows.

I have dealt with copy's of Triax and Technomate Dishes and they are utter shite my advice would be to spend a little extra and get something quality that will last and not something that in a years time has rusted and started falling apart.

Thanks for the advice. Apart from rusting how can quality be different? Surely it will pick up just the same?

Is 100cm too big for Yorkshire? Will 80cm suffice?

Have a look at the AZ/EL mounting backplate on that dish for fixed it looks ok for motorised you may have a problem getting a motor stub inside and securing correctly and possibly even having a decent turning circle. With that pole wall mount that it comes with it just reminds me of the cheap Ross 60cm B&Q dishes.

like anything else in life you get what you pay for.... most dishes run at 70%(according to the specs) but a cheap thing like that will be less. you wont notice on the stronger sats but when you try some of the weaker birds you will see why its ?30.. not to mention the material,az-el mount ect ect they have to cut corners in the manufacturing to sell it that cheap. if you want a fixed multi-lnb set up then get your self a 85cm gibertini and a 4 way multi-lnb arm with 4 inverto black ultra lnb,s and it will still be standing like new in 10 years time.. as the saying goes, "buy cheap buy twice/thrice" i should know regards mdt

Could I reuse my sky LNB on these? Are all motors roughly as good as one another?

Do not use your Sly LNB on that dish your wasting your time the Sly LNB has been manufactured to suit only there own type of dish and not what we would call an offset dish, The Black Ultra will do it far more good than a Sly One.

Depends what type of motor your talking about Diseqc or 36v, if your going for the TD110 or any other branded 1m then a diseqc one will suffice, The Dark Motor Superior and the TM2600 are pretty much on par with each other apart from the DM will travel around 10? further east/west. The STAB 100/120 is in aleague of its own its nearly twice the price but components used internally far surpass all the other Diseqc brands available plus it comes with a 3 year guarantee the only as far as i am aware Diseqc motor to do this.

It all comes down to budget really.

apart from not using it on a motor (which it would work on although not as good as a "proper" one) its worth noting that sly have had probably well over a dozen design changes over the years, so asking about your lnb without actually seeing it is a waste of time

there are some that are round and have a smooth body where the collar is and these work ok, but nowhere near as good as say inverto lnb,s like the ultrablack

there are many that have lugs on them that need to be files off to produce the round collar required, and some are thicker than others too, there are even bespoke ones where the bracket is moulded into the collar itself as a one-piece plastic and so would need to be hacksawed off completely and shaped to fit a round clamp too

so to ask if your sly lnb can be reused is an open ended question because none of us can see which of the say 18 types it actually is

I will say the newer quads with the thinner round collar are ok on multi lnb setups and I use them myself with good signals and quality. you just wind some black tape around the collar to bring up the thickness so the clamps get a good grip

but if fitting a motor then for say ?10 to ?25 its worth getting the inverto ultrablack, single, twin etc - no comparison whatsoever
