changing lnb, how to fit properly?

Hi, changing my single inverto lnb to a quad lnb, how do i change the lnb without messing my motorised sat up.

how important is the skew? how do i know if i fitted it correctly? any tests?

anything i need to be aware of before carrying out the work or is it just a matter of slotting it in?

    thanks peeps.

as far as i know for a motorized setup lnb skew should be level, a few experts should be along shortly

dish might need tweaked if your using different bracket etc..

when I did mine, I sent it to 0.8w so it was pointing due south almost and took note of signal and quality readings on a few channels like bbc world news, and look for fta channels with lower signal and qualitys if you can, making note of the values. ensure you obtain V channels and H channels when doing this, not just one polarity but both of them

the lnb will be horizontal at this location with no skew and generally the cable points straight down, also check how close or far away from the dish it is by checking the collar, as sometimes you can move it towards or away from the dish to maximise the signal (not a lot but its worth noting if its furthest away or close in)

now turn off the box at the mains switch, undo the lnb fixings and coaxialcable and remove it, and put the new one in the holder and lightly tighten it

now check the cable is straight down after reattaching it and place the new lnb in the same in/out position as the old one was by checking its position in the collar, and lightly tighten when complete

turn the box on and check those channels you did earlier and note down the values, they should be the same or better than before

if they are, tighten the lnb fully but do not overtighten

      job done

you can try adjusting in/out and slightly circular left or right but generally it will be fine

You could always try one it may make a differrence on your setup and then again it may not, generally they do make slight difference on the weaker TP's such as from 4.8?e,26.0?e and 7.0?w. The good thing about the black ultra is it has a long neck which allows you a little play to adjust the focal point postion that may squeeze an extra DB or 2

so for a tenner its not worth messing about with old sly lnb,s

better to buy properly once for the lnb and dish etc, than buy cheap rubbish and then buy twice ! my triax TD110 dish is coming up to 8 or 10 years old and still looks like new

I am hoping my new darkmotor and twin ultrablack will last 5 to 10 years or more, especially as its on a scaffold pole I fitted several years ago (with T-K brackets ) and not the cheap c**p I originally bought

like the members here say, buy cheap and you buy twice

and for the best signals, you get the biggest dish you can afford or get away with, size does matter in this case
