Can Sky+ box play avi files

    Hi,

I have a friend who has a couple of Sky+ boxes he doesn't want. I was wondering if these can be used without a subscription to play avi files copied from my PC. Or if they are useful for anything else for that matter.

    Thanks

I have never heard of a sly box playing avi, or mkv or anything else thats video for that matter, I think it uses a bespoke mpeg system

Sorry, I should have also said I don't have a satellite dish.

What does 'np' mean Father Ted?

          No Problem !

as for sky plus boxes, they use pata hdd inside them, so ok for an older pc or external usb case

the sly plus HD boxes have bigger sata hdd inside them so are more useful

Thanks for the replies. I will probably break them up and try to use the hard drives then.
