    Difference in softcam key

    Hi guys

What's the difference in softcam keys between the receivers?

Example.... In my OpenBox S11 I use the usual softcam.key files that are available all over the place.

However, I've just got a Dr. HD F16 which I believe uses the Clark Tech key files.

Now, the difference I have noticed is on for example, I*r*d*e*t*o where the keys in the usual files are 32 chars yet in the CT files they are 16.

What's the difference (and don't say 16 ) and is there a way to convert them (util or formul)?

The key I want is out of date in the CT file yet has been updated in the others so I'm looking to update manually.

    Hope I've explained it properly?

    Cheers

You can use the Softcam key file that is generated for the Technomate receivers, any that need editing use notepad ++

from what I remember some receivers cannot accept the 32 characters in one line, so its split into two lines of 16

in which case you just split the standard 32 bit line into two after the 16th character and then edit them both into the relevant two lines in the 16 character softcam that the receiver uses

so check the technomate softcam as that was similar, identify the old key across the two lines, then copy and paste the 2 new lines you have "split" from the 32 character key, save and test

Hi. In TM's BISS/CCW lines are 32 characters long. IRDETO, SECA, NAGRAVISION etc lines are 16 characters long. At the moment, as far as i know, only SECA use 16 characters keys. If entering keys manually in a TM(probably same in CT receivers) you need to be aware of the key indexes when spiltting the key into two sections. For example if valid IRDETO key is 02 then you need to split key as follows:

KEY INDEX 01: First 16 characters. (ie 1-16)
KEY INDEX 02: Second 16 characters (ie 17-32).

If valid key is 04 then key indexes will be 02 and 52.
If valid key is 06 then key indexes will be 03 and 53.

You can always enter keys automatically via a softcam if you dont like entering keys manually but its a good learning process to enter manually.

        Regards

Hi. Remmember also when changing keys that you have the correct PROVIDER ID for the keys that you are changing. For softcam files you dont need to worry about this as it will automatically be inserted.

                Thanks mate.

What's the relevance of the "Slot x" bit?

Hi. Where do you get this from? To be honest i never use softcam keys files, i always enter keys manually because i enjoy it. By the way are the keys now working for you?? Also do you have a motorized system??

                  Regards

It's just in the files, it's commented out but I just wondered what it meant.

Yes mate, have a motorised setup

I think the keys are generally working, interestingly when I looked at the TM/CT one I saw the difference with the 03/53 being split.

Thanks for the help.... It's not like it used to be 10 years ago just writing a Fun6 in 1 once a week heh

Hi. Good to hear that the keys are working or you think they are. Those slots that you mentioned i think they are to do with the way that the softcam files allocate the keys to the different boxes or slots within the CAS menu. If you press 8282 on remote it should bring up the CAS menu and you will see boxes for IRDETO, SECA, NAGRAVISION etc plus the keys.

                      Regards

Can I just fire this thread up again as I'm after some more help...

A certain channel on 39e uses key index M1 for example. It's missing from the CT softcam by Eniz 9 but is available for other files.

I have it working on my TBS card using VPlug but can't get it to work on my Dr HD box as I'm not sure how to split it down from 32 to 16.

                        M1 becomes what? M1 and M51?

                        Thanks for any help
